Default Intel on 2016 GTS

A friend of mine has been on the hunt for a NA white/black GTS 7 MT for awhile. He has found a few, but hesitated and then lost them to another buyer.

He has found his "perfect spec" GTS for sale at a Pasadena used car lot. Here is the listing:

https://www.carsdelivered.com/vehicl...AB2A91GS122131

Here is the VIN: WP0AB2A91GS122131

A random used car lot in Pasadena strikes me as an unusual place to find a car like this for sale. But one never knows where he or she will find a jewel.

One California owner car. Clean CarFax (for whatever that is worth) with a few documented service records. Google search of the VIN reveals no red flags. The price seems reasonable, given the current market.

Does anyone here have any intel on this car? Other than the usual advice of "Get a PPI before committing", any thoughts on this one?

Thanks for any insights!

If that is a GTS-vin shows S model-most are ordered with Center Lock wheels. That one has 5 lug wheels which may be an indicator the car has seen track time. Definitely get a DME.

I dont get too caught up in one of these being at a non-Porsche dealer. I bought both of my 911s and my 19 GTS from non-Porshe dealers. Just need to make sure you know who they are, reputation, etc first. The price is a little high as it is right at sticker which was $116k. The only thing that stands out to me is understanding what maintenance has been done. Looks like it was always serviced at Porsche LA but given its age it is due for the 40k service, belt, and brake flush so factor that into the price. Also worth a try to call Porshe LA to see if the service advisor will go over the records with you. I did that with one of the 911s I bought and got lucky that Porsche was more than happy to do it as I scheduled my service with them after buying it.

??? what???

mine is a .1 GTS with 5 Lug wheels and it surely hasn't been tracked.
If anything the CL wheels (with proper equipment) are easier for track duty, thats the whole point right??? or do the Gt3s come with CL for just aesthetic reasons

A DME is a must on a Manual car, goes without saying

I dont care for bare plastic and Vinyl on a $150K car.. but thats a subjective thing

It does have 5 Lugs, which I prefer and is special. No sunroof is a Plus but no heated or cooled seats is another minus for me.

Unless this is supposed to be a track mule, lack of those amenities will be annoying over time.

I think that seems like a pretty good deal to me. I did a search of autotrader for a '16 GTS with a manual to get a sense of what my car was worth and the very few available, especially with low mileage like this were in the 130s. It would kind of bug me though to not know what the car's life had been prior to my ownership. Having 5 lug wheels for me has been a benefit and my car has never been on a track.

The Porsche Track Experience, PTX, in Birmingham AL, had a fleet of 991.2 GTS models for their school. Many of them were standard colors, including white.

They had mileage between 10 to 20k, when I was there and drove them. They indeed had the 5 lug rims. However, you could order them that way as a customer. They were retired and replaced with 992 Carrera S models, I was there when that happened and drove these 992s brand new, they had 100 miles at the time.

Whether or not this GTS comes from the PTX fleet is unknown. Heavy track use will discolor the brake calipers to a lighter shade. Worth looking at that clue. Can’t really make out the color shade of the calipers from the picture other than they’re red.

All being said, the 991.2 GTS is a very desirable model IMHO.

As for a PPI, it can only be as good as the tech performing it.

The car looks good, a little bit light on options to my liking but it has quite a low mileage so probably worth considering it.
Has anyone managed to read the age of the tyre on one of the pictures? I seem to read 1715 (17th week of 2015) which seems really old - I hope my reading is wrong. Probably worth checking for all 4 tyres if you can get the pictures.

I think the reading is 1719 - 17th week of 2019?

Guys:

Thanks for all the helpful comments. My friend called the LA Porsche dealer listed on the CarFax. He said the service advisor confirmed that the car had been in their shop but that no service had been done - which is not consistent with the CarFax report. . Very odd. SA would not tell my friend why the car had been in and declined to share any more information. The dealer was not interested in doing a PPI on the car, which did not surprise me.

My friend has a relative who lives in Pasadena who is a bit of a car guy. He is going to take a look at the car and try to locate a good indie to do a PPI. Pretty tough trying to buy a car all the way across the country.

I'll let you know how this turns out. I am not optimistic, but reckon we'll see.

Why would the dealer decline to do the PPI? When I bought mine in Colorado the dealer was very cordial and accommodating.

Many dealers don’t like to do a PPI. The ones in the DC region tend not to do them.
