Default Scratch on passenger door

So just bought this 991 and I unfortunately was not informed of this scratch or noticed it prior to buying ( i am very upset) it doesn't appear deep but quite long, only noticeable if you really look. can this be buffed out or would i need to repaint the door? any idea on how much that usually costs?

Rule of thumb is that if you can feel it with your fingernail, you can not fully remove. But even if you can, you can make it much less noticeable with buffing. Time to buy a DA polisher.

Take it to a detailer to get the car completely cleaned and polished. I am sure he can get that scratch out.

does your nail catch if you lightly scratch it?

i have had great success using my rupes bigfoot with coarse polishing cream and their coarse wool pad. you will be able to get a LOT of that out. or a detailer will. dont think thats too bad

If you've got a some polish you can probably get that out yourself with a soft applicator or a DA polisher with a finishing/waxing pad if it doesn't come off by hand. That doesn't look like a scratch through the clear coat, looks like someone rubbed something on the door. I've gotten tons of stuff like that off of my kids' car from time spent in a high school parking lot. Any decent detailer will likely be able to take care of that for you also.

As a few other already said - If you can feel it with your fingernail it's a scratch. It can be made to be almost invisible. The trick is to touch it up completely with a matching color, of course. Once it's dry you can wet sand down the touchup to be smooth with the original paint, then buff it out. You will only see it if you know about it and look for it.

Love this forum already. Thanks for all the advice. It barely catches the nail. The detailed checked with some tool and said you have a good amount of clear coat still and he will do his best to take it out. Detailing Dynamics in mineola. Seemed reputable. Will keep you all posted!

The fact he checked the clear is a good sign.

Glad it's working out. Unfortunately though, with a black car, it's neither the first or last one you'll find.
