Default Alternator belt after water pump

Has anyone else had an issue with the alternator belt after the water pump was replaced under the recall for leaking?

it's a serpentine belt, so it was removed and reinstalled when the water pump was replaced.

with just "an issue" as info, it's hard to say. could be standard maintenance required -- belts wear out and age out. could be contamination from the water pump removal. could be improper installation.

Exact issue was in town normal driving and all of a sudden this squealing noise starts and then within a block I got an alternator warning light telling me to pull over. My thought is that the dealership didn't do something correct during the water pump change. Belt to tight or miss aligned something like that.

I've only gotten the squealing belt once when I went through a good size puddle of water.

The belt has a tensioner on it so it will not be too tight...... but the tensioner could go bad and not put enough tension on the belt allowing it to slip a little.

Did it correct itself or did the dealer have to remedy the situation?

It's pretty hard to mess up tension and alignment. Could be an entirely unrelated incident, like the PDCC (or PDCC dummy) pulley seizing.

Should probably bring it back to the dealership, especially if your water pump replacement was recent.

it's at the dealership that did the water pump. Hopefully it won't be there long....but they probably won't even look at it until next week.

How many miles?

I had to have my tensioner replaced during my last belt change (135K miles) because the plastic pully was worn,

My car only has 9k miles on it. Shouldn't need anything this soon.

Time is just as much of a factor as miles, for what it's worth.
