Okay, so the MFD wasn't showing it was overfilled, simply just full?

what you've said has only served to further confuse me (and presumably other people reading this thread in the future)

thus far I've gathered:
- no overfill alert
- smokes 1 out of 10 startups
- don't have an MFD (!?)
- checked the oil and it was overfilled (how?)
- read somewhere about someone having too much oil so you decided to drain some oil
- currently showing full oil, after having drained some oil (again, how?)

some of these things directly conflict with one another. how do you not have an MFD? did you delete it? if so, why? do you have a dipstick installed?

there's so much missing context here and the thread reads like insanity as a result of this. it's great the issue is maybe resolved, but for posterity it's extremely helpful to clearly state what happened and the steps taken to rectify it.

there's also the problem that sometimes smoking at startup is not something that overfilling would generally cause, unless the smokey startup is immediately after beating the crap out of the car, which you seem to do with regularity, so a 1 out of 10 smokey startup scenario seems unlikely.

okay, that is the MFD.

I assume it read full, but not overfilled, when you first looked at it before you drained oil, too?

if so, I don't think it's defective, I think you were simply in the margin of error range before it alerts for being overfilled.
