Make sure the car didn’t come with power steering plus. Disabling that improves steering responsiveness under 40mph significantly. Also— upgrading the suspension will do wonders for direct steering feel as well. That said you’ll grow to like the steering. It’s extremely precise and the right amount of feedback it just has a lot less “noise” than you get on the hydraulic steering of the 997’s.

If you have a PIWIS... (these instructions assume a PIWIS II but PIWIS III should be similar)
Go to diagnostics. At the bottom, find the button that when you hover over you see "additional menu". Then "Maintenance of Vehicle Data" -> Press F12 several times until you arrive at Menu Z. Near the bottom is something labeled "Speed Sensitive Steering" which you need to uncheck (along with "ServoTronic Steering" if you see it). Then check "Standard Power Steering" and click save.
