The 911 is a very comfortable car for long drives.
That said, whether you drive or ship really depends on what time is like.
Do you have anything better or more productive you could (or should) be doing instead of spending 3-4 days on the road?
If not, and you actually enjoy car trips, then absolutely go for it. The 911 will not beat you up.
If you do have something better to do, i.e., a job, other hobby, etc., then have it shipped.

I bought a car in Maryland last June, flew there, and drove it back to Texas. I took my time and enjoyed a number of smaller and more scenic roads. It was great. The Pcar is a nice touring car and comfortable even on long trips. I have shipped cars in the past but would certainly do this again as it was so much fun.

Five years ago I drove my brand new 991 from Atlanta to Colorado, with a stop to see friends in North Texas. We avoided interstates, and had no issues with road debris or traffic. Some decent roads and scenery, and places worth stopping.

What my son said - have done several cross country trips with my "kids" picking up a car, including getting my son's first Porsche, a '06 Cayman S, from NC to IA (he still has it), a GT3 from TN to IA (still have that, and put more miles on it in one day than it had in its first 1 1/2 years), and recently his TTS coupe he bought from me, going to SD from AZ.
If you have kids, there are memories you'll never forget, and a nice road trip in a great car is one of those!

It’s an easy but not terribly exciting two day drive from ATL to Denver. The past January I did that same exact drive. If you dont have a big concern about mileage I think I would drive it but then I enjoy long road trips…

If you havent done this sort of trip, I suggest do it. If it was as bad as you thought it was, then now you know. Must be my mid-life kicking in
For bumper protection, perhaps use one of these

Back in 1996, i took my 87 Carrera from PA to CA and back again with a good friend. We did 10k miles in a month. One of the best experiences in my life. My avatar is from that trip on I-70 somewhere in Utah.
I flew to KY with my son to pick up my 17 and that drive back was a great father/son experience.
Find a good co-pilot and drive it!!!

Liz is great, and if you ship, I'd go with her. But I recently drove my new BGTS from PAC-LA to Florida and am so glad I did. No regrets whatsoever. Make a trip of it, find nice restaurants and places of interest along the way.
f you drive the interstates at speed, a few rock chips are unavoidable.
Good luck.

If you drive, since you’re retired, (IMO) try to figure a back Road route. For sure avoid I 40, especially between Memphis and Little Rock where it’s all trucks all the time … and all kinds of crap on the road.
