Default Dealers: it's gonna get worse

I was chatting with a neighbor who works at a big german dealership locally (Audi, VW, Porsche, others).
I was joking about supply chain and MSRP adjustments, he said his dealer was the only one not gouging on this (only adjusting on super high end models and EVs) and therefore they sold all they had and got more cars from the fatherland as a thank you for doing well, but it was gonna get worse... You all know about Ukraine and wiring harnesses for Porsche, but he said most german manufacturers are shutting down now, for a bit. It's more than harnesses, lots of subsystems and EV stuff apparently come from Ukraine or subsystems thereof do, all are affected, leather for example was GONE - Audi simply cannot make seats anymore. Vw has cloth alternatives but not Audi... Said they had a mere 14 cars FS across their 4-5 dealerships, and a the new batch that arrived (4 cars) was sold in 2 hours yesterday with salespeople cutting each other's throats in the process ;-). Since we are typically 3 mo behind Germany for these things, he expects June to be a bloodbath for car sales (above MSRP, max value etc). Make of that what you will for buying or selling but if we were expecting things to get better, nope.... not yet.. Some entire model lines have been cancelled outrightdue to shortage (q5 hybrid for instance)...

991 content ? he reiterated they live on used car sales right now, they'd buy my 2013 at a nice premium for sure and it would be gone in a day. I passed. I may sell my 72 though.. different market ;-)

Makes you appreciate what you do have....I can wait for another 911.

If it takes 3,4 or 5 years it is what it is.

Good info. For those looking now that NEED a 911, could be a good time to buy. It's almost difficult to say that considering what the past year has been like with pricing and availability.

I was at the dealer this morning checking on the build progress of my Macan. About ten days ago my enter body shop date was 3/18. Today it's 4/1 (no joke!). SA said that's just a "plug date" as the plant is closed (Leipzig) and Porsche isn't telling them when it might reopen. Almost all of the cars that they have incoming are presold. They're not charging ADM but they're not taking names for the allocations on popular (read 991) models as the lists are to long. At least 1+ years! OBTW, all six cars in their showroom are pre-owned or older collectables.

Terrible time for buyers - great for sellers. I was offered a considerable percentage more than market value for my Miami blue 991.2 but it's not leaving. Too difficult to replace and I love it.

I took pics in the spring of 2020 of a business show that had the price of oil at $-13.98 a barrel. That’s right, someone had to pay someone just to take the oil from them. We will likely never see that again. Some crazy s**t these past couple of years have been.

I want a 911 but premiums for a used vehicle are ridiculous. Can I wait? Sure! But man it’s so tough. Dealer wants my 5k to get in line and I’m #5 in line for a new C4S. Awful

Adding to this - spoke to someone at one of my local dealerships and they haven't received a new car since October. No wonder sites like BAT and Collecting Cars are blowing up as the used market is the lion's share of buying/selling right now. Stay strong.

This cannot be a Porsche dealer! Even my relatively small local dealer has been receiving some new cars. With Porsche closing manufacturing locations, from time to time due to parts shortages, this might become a problem in the future.

More of a reason to love what you got! Unless you got tons of spare cash.

The only things that will survive the nuclear winter are cockroaches and 911s!
