Anyone go from 911 / 718 to G80 M3?

If you get an M3 lease it. I leased a 2014 M5 and the residual was $75k ! When I turned it in it was worth mid 40s. There is no downside as long as you drive at least 7,500 miles a year and less than about 25k. The big advantage is you have the right but not the obligation to buy the car at the end of the lease for the residual. The disadvantages of leasing is it usually expensive or difficult to get out of a lease and when the lease is up you need a new car and the timing may not be right. If you own a car you get to choose the time to get a new one.

Currently own a 718 GT4 manual as my 'daily' I work from home. Used to own a 991.2 GTS and regret selling it because I've got two little ones and absolutely loved being able to haul my family around for backroad trips to a lake or park. The prices on pcars are insane and can't even get an allocation for 992 GTS.
I test drove the new M3 on a couple of occasions and was surprised on how close it felt to the 911. So I pulled the trigger and ordered one (ETA in about a month).
Anyone who went from a 911 or Cayman to M3 have any regrets? I love my GT4 and love the feel, handling and fun factor. Wish I could own both!
My thought process is to enjoy the M3 and wait until prices come to sanity levels and 992 GTS allocations are more available.

In a 5 year time frame:
991.1 -> X6M (F86) -> M3 (F80) -> Macan GTS -> 991.2
I got the M3 hoping for something fun (and smaller than X6M) with a manual transmission that can fit the 3 of us and baby stuff (stroller, click-in seat system)
Loved that M3 engine.
But steering numb, suspension harsh, and interior felt cheapy--hard to sit in the M3 after the X6M.
The M steering wheels are too large in diameter (was same in both X6M and M3), and too thick, and a bit squishy, which all contributes further to decreased steering feel.
The imbalance from steering inputs vs what I could feel and hear for the rest of the car (with really firm suspension) was annoying.
I actually enjoy driving the Macan GTS more than the M3 because the Macan provides a more cohesive/coherent experience across all aspects: steering, engine, braking, transmission, suspension, and with a better interior.
X6M was also a better integrated and consistent driving experience than the M3.
But did love the M3 color and wheels!
I really just missed driving a 911, and when our child grew big enough for a seat that works in the rear of the 911, got the 991.2 GTS last summer.
Originally wanted a 992 because it felt kinda silly getting another 991.
But I didn't want to wait, and I'd still be waiting now for a 992 GTS.
I haven't driven the new M3, but another parent at my kid's preschool has one, and it's so ugly from the front.
From the reviews I've seen, it seems to overall drive well, but steering feel doesn't seem to have improved, or least not by much, and that's one of the most important characteristics of a car for me.
Of the 5 vehicles I had in that 5-year timeframe, the F80 was the most disappointing, though overall, it was a decent car.
Hopefully the new M3 wil be a better experience for you than the F80 was for me.

Steering feel in M3's declined after that
In general, I really like BMW inline 6's
Sound good, feel good
And BMW has been developing them for so long that I don't think anyone makes better inline 6's
Between the F80 M3 and 991.2 GTS engines, hp and torque numbers are nearly identical
I thought the F80 M3 engine felt good, and it sounded OK to me
But I do like the 991.2 engine sound better, much of that because it's has a unique sound and character

Just had a little one and I’m not letting m 991.2 S go anywhere...
I just got Sebrio rotors and EBC pads ... cup 2 tires it’s the perfect GT car that’s also great on a race track.
Go with a 992 GTS be patient.. the BMW is heavy car

How well did the 991.2 work for hauling both kids and your significant other? Could they all fit comfortably and endure a longer (e.g., 30+ mins) drive? Were they in car seats? I have a 4 and 2 year old and still not quite sure if a 911 would work out. Would love to hear your thoughts.

yeah I’ve been on the hunt for a 991.2 GTS but folks are keeping the better speced ones. And the extra cash from selling GT4 is also enticing. I’m almost positive I’ll move to 992 GTS anyway.
I went from a 718 GTS (2.5L) to 991.2 GTS to GT4. Came back to the 718 platform because it was more fun to drive; better steering feel, go-karty, etc. The 911 gave up maybe 20% of that but made up for it in torque, space, sound (actually liked the sound of the turbo motor), and importantly being able haul my family to backroad trips.
