Default 2018 991.2 water pump failure

12K miles on the car. Coolant leaking. Dealer confirms water pump failure, and quotes $3.5K to replace. Lucky the car is CPO !

So many of these have failed (including mine) that I believe you could have gotten it for free without CPO. You could probably count on one hand, the earlier .2's without water pump failures. Make sure they replace the valve and the lines as well as it is common to see cars having to go back for this after the initial pump failure.

It's a known issue with some cars manufactured around that time. I have a 2018 991.2 GTS that had this failure at around 9k miles. They have to replace the water pump and some of the vacuum lines that get compromised with water if it leaks. My first indicator that I had a problem is that the engine overheat warning came on. I got mine fixed under warranty.

Thanks for the tips. I asked if they would also replace thermostat, but dealer said "only parts experiencing failure" are covered.

Known issue and very common. It's covered for 10 years with or without CPO.

Porsche is paying for the water pump replacement under warranty for ten years. Porsche Austin labor rate is $300 an hour. One can see how repairs can become pricey.

Water pump is covered under the CPO warranty. Quote for service otherwise was $3.5K.

44k miles on my 2018 C4 and noticed the pink fluid on the garage floor. I knew what it was and didn't need to investigate where it came from. Thank goodness Porsche extended the warranty to ten years on these water pumps.

The car also needs a serpentine belt replacement as it will hit 6 years old in July. I already have the belt and was planning to do it myself in July but this is an opportunity to save me a bunch of time. I already have the belt so I am hoping the dealership will just let me give it to them and get it put on without a charge. They have to take the belt off anyway so there is no extra labor. Although they probably aren't going to take the belt totally off but just loosen it and flip it off the pump.

What do you guys think? Will they charge me?

^ So did they charge you to add the belt?

57,000~ miles and just noticed a pool of pink fluid on the floor tonight under our late 2018 C2, with the culprit obvious once I looked up under the car. Drove the car earlier today, but saw no dash warnings. Will get it looked at asap, and appreciate the inputs re: what else to change (whether or not they will cover it). Car is coming up on 6 years in service later this year, so the belt is worth considering. This is the first mechanical issue, and I was starting to wonder if late 2018 cars might dodge this bullet!

I think the drive belt would be the only major while-you're-in-there thing to address and hopefully they will be reasonable and not treat it like a completely separate labor charge. And because it's due anyway at 6 years, no sense n not getting it down now.

There's a lot of other things that might need to be considered based on time/mileage. See the attached maintenance checklist for a 2017 C2S (which is pretty much the same as yours).

What is the build month/year of your car?
If owned since new: did you spec/order with an allocation? Or purchased off dealer lot?

I can replace the water pump for parts for $600, the extra $3k is for the coffee, chairs, and salary for Porsche.... The best I ever felt in my life is when my attorney was describing me to a judge, my first thought was who is he talking about, then wow this feel good. In the end it was the best money I spent. The attorney make me feel special.... Porsche does the same but the charge more.

They did not charge me. I was planning on doing it myself as part of the 6 year maintenance in a few more months and then I noticed the water pump failure. I had already ordered the belt from Suncoast. I gave them the belt and they replaced it for free.
