I’m looking for a 911 in the next month or two. I’ve driven a 991.1 s and a 991.2 base. I liked both cars. I don’t have a local 992 to drive. I had an order in for a g80 M3 6mt but cancelled it once I drove the 991.2 because I knew I needed a 911.
I was leaning toward a 991.2 Carrera t as I like that more raw experience. I’m coming from a 4c. I noticed the 992 base cars are falling in my price range. Not sure if I should hold out for a specific trim with either generation too?
my price range is 100-125k usd.
any advice from those with more experience? Thanks

Since my purchase I have driven multiple 992 variants. Personally to me, it comes down to which model aesthetically floats your boat the most. The performance difference is negligible from my perspective since I am no where near able to exploit the maximum performance from either car!
Enjoy the hunt… a BIG part of the fun!

Went through the 991.2 versus the 992 debate when the 992 was first announced. I could have had either but at the time the 992 was not available with a manual like it is today. I compared the 2 cars online and was able to drive a 991.2 (S & GT3) since the 992 was not available yet. Having a manual trans and preference for the analog gages, put me in the 991.2 buying camp.

It’s a fantastic car! Never been happier with one. I’ll post photos of both.

i just got one yesterday with 2,000 miles on it. its a beautiful car. equipped with best performance bits but not an overly done build.
i don't think i have been this excited to own a car. i had my eye on the one i got for about a month but decided to purchase yesterday. the 992 is such a different animal from anything else they make. it the turbo's, especially where i live which is about 6000 ft above sea level.
on the list for the .2 4S.

For, me I'll take any 911 - as long as it does not have a nubbin gear shifter. So, I suppose that rules out all 992 Carreras. Based on the mule spy shots of the 992.2 Carrera, the nubbin will be in the next generation car as well. Thank goodness the GT department had the good sense to deep six the nubbin on the PDK GT3 and GT3 RS. They even brought back the 991.2 generation door handle on the 992 GT3 RS - hurray!

After 4 years, people are pretty accepting of the nubbin and the 991 PDK stickshifter is now looking very dated. The digital nature of the nubbin has its charms.
The GT3RS gets the 991.2 door handles, because it's a carbon fiber door. The 992 handles were a little twitchy for MY2020, but Porsche worked out the kinks. Totally fine.
The most concerning thing about the 992.2 spy photos is that they've gone full Taycan on the dash. Analog tach is gone.

The nubbin is entirely fine. It's a gear selector and not a shifter. It's also one less thing to impale you in an accident.

Truth be told the turbocharged 3.0L feels quicker in regular driving on public roads.
The only reason that the current GT3 is still NA is the Taycan. Taycan sales brought down the fleet CO2 numbers to accommodate it.

There is a reason that the GT department has maintained a gear shifter in the 992 GT3 with PDK - because it gives the driver the option to shift gears with a gear shifter rather than paddles. AP himself has said he likes to shift gears with the gear shifter in the PDK cars. I don't doubt he had some input on this decision. It is good to have options. The option to shift gears with something other than the paddles was lost in the 992 generation Carrera and Turbo.
Looks are totally subjective. My main gripe with the nubbin is not its appearance but its diminished functionality.
