Here in MT we get it all during the winter, so I put snow tires on everything, and drive as conditions allow: big deep snows that are unplowed (pickup); hard packed snowy roads (Civic); and when the sun comes out for a few days, dry but cold pavement (991.2 C2S). The pickup has GY Duratracs, and I leave those on year round, they really have excellent snow and ice traction, only "all season" tire that I've used that doesn't mostly suck at everything.
Need to buy something for the winter as I've moved out of the city and will need to drive daily during the winter. I was buying a Jeep wrangler but after sitting in it realized they are horrendous. Curious what everyone else is driving
2005 4runner mostly. i also drive my 2016 911 GTS on snow tires when the roads are not too wet or salty. Handles deep snow well. 22 Macan GTS coming next week which will be my new daily driver for winter.
Fully loaded 2008 BMW 128i 6 speed sports package and BMW performance brakes.
Recently was reminded how light and toss-able it is for German sports coupe. Super comfortable, easy to shift, N52 engine extremely linear and highly underrated (not a fan of turbos which in turn limits manual transmission choice cars these days). Suffers in deep snow and or really slipper road conditions at higher speeds but nothing else drives like it and I’ve driven lots. I haven’t found an AWD car I like enough to replace it with either. Only snows badly a few days a year here so I just enjoy it as much as I can.
