Default New vs old Carreras

Owners of new and old Carreras, what are your thoughts?
Did Porsche explain why they stop NA engines, fuel consumption? Who cares
Have new turbo-engines really better fuel consumption or what is reason behind this move?

My guess its not fuel consumption which is lower in general. The lower emissions are the reason. Also china, as an important market for Porsche, has a law in which car manufacturers pay horrendous amounts of taxes for importing cars with more than 3.0 Liters engines.
I can't proof that with a source but just heard it. Please correct me, if I'm wrong.

Sadly, it was more emissions than it was MPG, but it surely was an added reason.

Another reason being N/A had hit a brick wall of evolution and/or development. Even if they bored those engine to 4.0 and beyond they couldnt keep up with the competition as far as Engine performance.

You might ask Why is the GT3/GT4 etc still N/A.. They make it work in the GT cars because those cars are at a much higher price point and those N/A engines are costly.

For those of few who enjoy N/A engines only, there are still plenty of pre-owned cars to go around (or sell some TSLA stock and buy a GT3 lol)

I prefer NA motors on sports cars but I realize turbo engines are necessary to improve performance and they are a step-up for daily drivers much like modern automatic transmissions. Battery electric vehicles will eventually make the turbo engines obsolete but I will never agree to give up on the NA regardless of the improvement in performance from turbos and electric drive.

As with above, wall of performance.

Happened with air cooled. Now it happened with water cooled. It'll happen with forced induction eventually, so performance hybrid systems will come about.

I also believe that Porsche, like almost every other manufacture at this point, realized a major opportunity to capitalize on a turbocharged engines ability to be easily tuned to different power levels. Essentially the same engine is present in the 991.2 Carrera, Carrera S and GTS despite the increased power outputs as you move up the model ladder. In addition to the emissions and mpg requirements these turbo engines brought with them a new opportunity for increased profitability but sadly, from my perspective, an erosion of value on the consumer side that's all too common in today's corpo world.

The 991.2 is still a Porsche 911 and a fantastic car at that, the performance / power output aspects of the new turbo engines are not in question. They do however, represent a change of direction and everyone has to decide whether or not that direction is suitable for them.

I was just at a Porsche Drive Event and drove 5 cars: Macan Turbo & mid level Taycan on the road, and a 911 Cab, a 911 Turbo S and Taycan Turbo S on the autocross circuit.

Lets forget about the Macan and Taycan because a Porsche SUV or EV just aren't for me. If anything in today's line-up, I would go for a GT3 Touring if it had a real dash like on my 991.1 or 993, not these glass panels. Plus it needs to be a manual.

I guess my 991.1 GTS will be my last Porsche. Besides, I tend to keep my vehicles.

I love it when someone wanders in and throws the "NA vs Turbo" hand grenade, then casually walks away whistling

When insurance, gas prices, and regulations are pushing us all to move into EVs maybe there will be more solidarity between the petrol brethren!

Yeah it's a pretty good first post, isn't it?
