Default Is there a way (settings)

To have the features of sport mode without the stupid exhaust crackle? I want the safety nannies in place so prefer not to drive in sport plus (to avoid the snap, crackle pops).

As per above, no way to disable snap crackle pop in Sport via the car as it comes, as far as I now.

Do you have PSE? My base '17 C2 with no PSE has never emitted so much as a single snap, crackle, or pop since the day I bought it in 2019. I drive exclusively in sport mode (no *** mainly, but I like the autorev matching) and have tried multiple times to create the conditions for it, to no avail. I've concluded that without the PSE, you either don't get the backfires or they are so muted by the time they get to the passenger compartment they might as well not be there.

Yeah, not so much. I think it’s juvenile at best. For those not in the know, which is most, it makes a car sound somehow broken. My son, 11, thinks it’s embarrassing, which says something.

Curious to know what was going through your head when you test drove it and noticed the cracks and pops, yet still bought it...

Buys a sports car, and complains because it sounds like a sports car.. Kinda like people that buy a house next to the airport, and complain about the airplane noise..

Close the exhaust flaps and the pops go away, but then you get to enjoy the terrible sound of the PSE muffler.

Overrun afterfiring and "you let off the throttle let's arbitrarily inject a bunch of fuel now and pop it in the exhaust" are very different things. Synthetic afterfiring is simply there to emulate supercars and is an extremely divisive thing. See "crackle tunes" -- some people pay for this stuff, many people hate it.

Yes, I understand over-run. On a turbo car it slows turbo spool down and ultimately boost loss during shifting, on a NA car it's mostly pointless other than the cool factor. If anything, Porsche's are way to conservative in the sound department, that's why there are soo many after market exhausts out there.

You're describing antilag, not overrun. The 911 does not have antilag. Antilag destroys turbos.

The pops and crackles from a 911 have no functional purpose. They are simply there for cool factor, attempting to emulate a high powered car with poor fueling control (or ludicrous amounts of fueling that cannot be controlled, a la 1200hp+ engines)

I believe using the SPORT+ setting eliminates the backfire.

The OP doesn’t like that feature, others do, but tolerance can be helpful.

I for one enjoy the option just for its irreverence.

Well, over-run is used for anti-lag, yes. No, antilag doesn't kill turbos. Porsche uses anti-lag on it's turbo vehicles, they just call it Dynamic Boost. Same effect, different methods. And yes, over-run is pretty pointless in this forum.

Anyway, back to topic..
