991.2 GTS - motor wind down noise

This might be completely normal, but I am a new owner of a 2018 GTS (manual) with 14k miles on it. I’ve only put 100 miles on it so far, and have really taken it easy (haven’t pushed passed 5k RPM - in 3rd gear). Here’s the scenario: in 3rd gear at 4K RPMs, foot off gas, as the motor unwinds and the RPMs drop below 3k, there is an additional motor “noise”. Doesn’t sound unhealthy, but it’s there… does this sound familiar?

Is this your first 911? If so, these are noisy, stinky, uncomfortable cars. The flat 6 has a distinct whine, even in the 991.2 generation, that Porsche tries to maintain as the heart of the car (think Harley with their trademarked sound, Porsche 911s are similar.)
Go listen to some youtube videos of in-car and out-of-car pulls, racing, drive-offs, etc of 911s across various years. They all have a distinct whine.
There isn't anything that sticks out to me as a sub-3k overrun-only sound on my 991.2, but it's likely "just a 911 thing". If you could get a recording of it to share, that would be helpful to certainly say yes/no for us!
Also, welcome to Rennlist, and congrats on the new ride!

There’s a feature in the 911 that brings in additional sound into the cabin, it’s called a “symposer”.
Basically a tube in the rear compartment that connects to the engine bay. That could be what you’re hearing, most noticeable on decel.

Congratulations! Sounds you like you need to take the car out for some spirited driving. Enjoy it!
Do shoot a vid of the noise in question and post it here. I’m curious.

Sounds like "engine braking" to me. This is when you downshift and use the engines compression to slow the car without using the brakes. There is definitely a difference in the engine/exhaust sound. If you have PSE you may also get the pops and bangs.
