Default Reversing up a hill in a manual

Recently, I experienced a weird situation in my 7 spd manual C2, 991.2.

I drove down a very steep hill and couldn't turn around at the bottom and had to reverse back up to get out.

I found it difficult to reverse as the engine only seemed to rev to about 1500 - 2000 rpm, with very little power and I kept stalling it. After several attempts I managed to feather the clutch and back up the hill.

I wonder if there is a rev limit in reverse?

Also, I don't think the automatic hill holding feature works in reverse, only when in 1st gear?

I think there is a rev limit in reverse. It's like 2000 or 2500. I think the car will sputter above that.

Possible the fuel level was low? Might have been starving for fuel on the hill with the fuel going away from the pickup.

if this were the case, generally speaking there would be violent bucking as the engine misfires in such a low ratio gear.

Reverse up an incline is the pretty much the only time I kill a manual car anymore.

Just excessively slip the clutch. It's what the PDK would do.

Is the automatic hill holding feature standard on the 2019 MT Carrera T? Or is this an option you had to order?

The hill hold absolutely works in reverse and you should be able to rev beyond those limits (I have). I have a good friend with a very steep driveway, it works. Put it in reverse, give it gas, don't be afraid slip the clutch and you should be fine.

Not sure if there is a rev limit in reverse, but I do have to slip the clutch a little bit reversing up my driveway. It is what it is.

To clarify though, the hill-hold function absolutely works in reverse!

I know you are specifically talking manual and I have PDK, but I back up an incline everyday and don't have that issue (see link below). I will say that you cannot be hesitant with the throttle or it doesn't work well. I learned that years ago on my 991.1 but I don't remember what happened when I was too light. I think it would just come to a hard stop which would be the equivalent of your stall.

I'm pretty sure I've hit this many times. 991.2 Manual, at about 2k RPM. The car will sputter (not really drivable). Someone else with a 991.2 Manual go try.

It's a situation that requires being a little harder on the clutch. You can't be fully disengaged and reverse up a steep hill, yes.
