991.1 Simple Audio upgrade - Apicella Auto Sound - NY
Hello everyone, Apicella Auto Sound is back with another build log. This is our "Stage-2" sound system upgrade that we offer for Porsche 911's, this one being a 991.1, so we were able to do a radio swap to offer a much more seamless integration of modern features such as Apple Carplay/Android Auto. This entire system is easily removed and reverted back to OEM if ever needed as nothing was cut or modified, as with all of our installs. What we ended up with for this Stage-2 upgrade is the following..

First up was installing the Kenwood radio to allow the client to have modern features such as Carplay/Android Auto, Backup Camera, etc.
A mounting bracket for the new tweeter was CAD designed and laser cut to mount to the OEM locations using the OEM hardware. The same was done for the door speakers, but unfortunately, we did not get pics of that process.
The Helix V Eight Mk2 DSP Amplifier replaces the OEM amp under the passenger seat. This small yet powerful 10 channel DSP/8 channel amplifier allows us to process and power the front 3-way speakers plus rear speakers and give us processed signal out to a mono amplifier for the subwoofer. This gets secured using OEM mounting points as well with no modifications necessary.
On to the subwoofer enclosure. This enclosure was designed to keep the look factory and without taking up any valuable real estate in the car. In this case, as with many others in the past, the customer was okay with losing his rear deck space. This location gives us great volume and low-end extension from a small shallow subwoofer. The Baltic Birch enclosure was braced appropriately and finished with OEM carpet to blend in without bringing attention to itself, and is also mounted to OEM mounting points yet is easily removable if ever needed.
The mono amplifier also gets installed underneath the enclosure and remains hidden yet is also easily removable if needed. It is secured to the enclosure so there is no need to cut or screw through the carpet to keep it in place.
