Default How long to wait after painting to apply PPF?

What has everyone heard through their detail shops regarding how long does one need to wait after a panel is repainted to reapply PPF? I have heard ranges from 30 to 90 days.

If the paint was oven cured, then good to go for PPF. Otherwise wait as long as possible.

Lots of people say 30, 60, 90 days or longer. If it's chemical cured and painted properly, about a week is fine (it's what a lot of OEMs do). The correct answer is the answer your painter gives you, because (presumably) they mixed the paint and know their chemicals.

I’ve had PPF done days after painting parts. The shop I used baked the painted parts and with modern paints the gassing process is non existent. Have had those parts wrapped, unwrapped and rewrapped without issue.
Porsche is offering PPF from the factory, do you think they are waiting 30-90 days to finish cars? That’s longer than their entire production time.

1 day at a minimum, 1 week at the most.

I called Expel a couple of months ago and according to them 30 days. I would check with your installer what exact material they are using and then calling teh manufacturer of it to see what they recommend.

It’s whatever the painter says since they’re the ones that will be warrantying the job

if you let them know you’ll be applying ppf, they should have ways of curing it faster

we use various shops based on the project and client expectations…knowing we’ll be applying ppf ASAP, the shops we work with take precautions knowing our objective; panels are ready to install ppf when we get them

but no blanket “curing time” since every shop is different

Verify with paint shop. Ask them if you follow their guidelines, will they guarantee that paint won’t lift when you pull off PPF. You might not own the car at that point though.

My local body shop, who has done a lot of parts for me, always says 60 days (from the mouth of the painter) so there is no general answer.

I have used a particular body shop for years that painted OEM mod parts on several Porsches. They always baked the pieces after painting and the next day delivered to my PPF installer. Never had an issue when the PPF was removed and reapplied. Just ask the paint shop. Like I said above Porsche is applying PPF at the factory now and they are not waiting 60 days to wrap.
