Default Castrol Edge 5w-40

I'm using this stuff with my next oil change next week. Being in So. Florida, 5w 40. Might add LUCAS low viscosity stabilizer too. Mine is a 2017 3.0 S.
The cold start tapping sends chills up my spine.
Anyone else using it?

I did a pretty thorough oil analysis a while back based on factory specs provided by the manufacturers. Castrol and Valvoline had good numbers when looking at reported viscosity. This was for 0W40 I believe. Try using the Castrol. Won’t likely be worse. Everyone has a slightly different formulation so that might just quite down the lifter noise you are experiencing. I’m on my second fill of LiquiMoly 0W40 and would say that maybe there is a bit less lefter noise but it seems like if the car is not driven for a bunch of days, the noise is present on start up.

Yes. It is Porsche A40 approved and $25 a jug at Walmart here in Florida. I have used it during Florida “winters” with no issues and have received good used oil analysis with it. BUT, here are the two caveats: I change oil every 6 months regardless of mileage so the oil usually only has about 3k miles (or less) on it and I use 5W-50 during Florida “summers” because of heat and humidity. I also use Castrol 5W-40 in my Toyota’s with an OCI of 5k miles and Castrol 20W-50 in my HD.

I'm with you on this. Maybe not chills but I hate the sound. If it's a40 approved, I think you're good to go. But I honestly don't know jack about this beyond using a40 approved.

In SW Florida I use 5-50 M1 but its makes NO difference. If the cars sits more than 4 days it ticks until fully warm.
Yes those are sport cats.

Another Florida man here (Naples). I'd be interested to hear if it helps because the tapping irritates me because of my type A+ gene. I'm due for an oil change in a few months, so hopefully you'll have an update before.

I'm up the road from you in Venice. FWIW I switched from the factory M1 0W-40 to M1 5W-50 two OCI's ago, Feb 20, and immediately noticed an absence of valve clatter/ticking on cold start up after sitting several days. The car is much quieter overall, for sure. Sample of one and all that, but that has been my experience.

That's not cool. What is most worrisome is the seemingly sudden change. Would love to hear the Epilogue on this one...hope it works out for you.

My parents are in Venice so I'm up that way often. Thanks for sharing your experience; it's enough for me to spec the 5W-50 on my oil change.

If you plan on using Mobil 1 5W-50 get an online account with NAPA. They've had a sale on 5W-50 the last two Springs for $5.79qt. Shipping for 8 qts was free.
