Default Title Delivery on Out of State Purchase

Hey, all, I'm finally joining the club! I'm purchasing a 2013 C4S from GA and it's being shipped to me in CA at the end of the week! Yeah, it's a stupid time to buy but my wife said yes and I'm not waiting to drop dead before I get a chance to finally own a 911.

Anyway, the seller is offering to FedEx the signed title and extra key to me, or to put it in the car before it gets transported (via McCollister's). I really can't decide what's smarter/safer. I can't title the car in CA until I smog it so there's no rush there.

Appreciate your input/experience. First Porsche, first out-of-state purchase as well.

Thanks.

Fedex. Someone with a title and the car has a lot more options than just a car.

First, congrats!
Second, definitely FedEx/UPS overnight with signature. I've received/sent titles in the past via them with no issues.

Congratulations! As others have said FedEx but I would have the extra key left in the glove compartment. I’m just paranoid on losing stuff in the mail.

See, this is not something I had even considered but now that you said this it's painfully obvious! Thank you, great advice. Supposedly the driver is bringing a bunch of high end cars to Pebble but still, better safe than sorry.

Thanks! I still won't believe it's real until I'm behind the wheel.

Now that you mention it, how much are replacement keys?

"Now that you mention it, how much are replacement keys?"

We only got one key with our car,, the additional one was about $250 at the dealer..
1/2 hour of labor + the key with remote. (2003 996)

Also, have him fill in your full legal name on the title as the purchaser before he sends it. A blank signed title floating around, even in FedEx is NOT good.

I've read elsewhere on the forum that 991 keys are upwards of $600. I haven't experienced this myself but just what i read here on RL.

FWIW a replacement 991.1 key cost me $414.91 in parts and $95 in labor back in 2016 (Bay Area CA dealership)

bought lots of cars out of state and brought into CA. Fedex of course. It's also good that they will send you the title right away rather than giving you a temp tag and floating your title for 3 months to deal with their cash flow issues or investing your money....happens all the time and not entirely illegal. Kinda similar to what happens with CNC motors
