In my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions, that's a $125k car at best in a normal market, as it sits. Two years from now with 15k+ miles on it and a return to normal car market, I think it will be worth even less.

FWIW a friend of mine sold a $176K MSRP 2017 CGTS, 8K miles, for $120K 10 months ago.

It's all about how much you want THAT car, and how soon you want it. I'm more of a fan of YOLO-type impulse decisions... but at or near MSRP for an almost 3 year old car at this point is a tough pill to swallow. Even though the spec is fantastic, especially if you are a fan of silver.

As for abandoning the used market and buying new, that's still a pretty steep incline in price and the dealer probably recognizes that $15k delta is compelling enough to take the 991.2. I'll agree with most in this forum it seems, that something about the 991.2 is more elegant styling-wise from both an interior and exterior perspective than the 992 but all things being equal I'd have the newest model I could... but I've been in enough 991s at this point, the interior may look and feel great, but the fit and finish isn't QUITE as impressive as some may let on. My car's interior is noisy and squeaks and rattles are common. Initial impressions are that this has been more or less ironed out in the 992 but as usual, YMMV.

If you can wait and don’t need the car now, I would suggest to wait.

If you like this configuration and don’t think you can find an identical one later, then go for it. This 991.2 GTS is heavily optioned. Also, does it have a rubber dash or a leather one? I cannot really figure out from the pictures.

I'm pretty sure anything can be found with patience, so I'm not exactly married to this precise configuration. It does fit what I want almost exactly (I prefer white exterior, but GT Silver is great), and of course, I do want to have 911 fun as soon as is reasonable. That said, if I was reasonably confident that I could buy this vehicle for 20% less in Spring '22 I'd probably sit tight.

Driven the new 992 Carrera and they’re great but the interior leaves me cold.

If this one has all you want then make them an offer. Remember that finding that “one” car can be difficult.

Market forces are beyond our control but you control your budget. How bad do you want it? Good luck.
Thanks much for the feedback. I want a 911 and this one is a great spec. That said, I'm not sure I want it enough to pay what is effectively MSRP for an almost 3 year old car - especially if we all expect a correction.

Default Buy the newest you can afford

The 992 is a lot faster if that matters you. If your buying an automatic I would get the .2 as the remington razor shifter is an exercise is poor design.

My 9K mi 2017 GTS cabriolet was 109K last December. I tested the market in June with a bottom third of asking prices sale attempt (127K). No interest. I think the asking prices are still fantasy compared to what people actually pay. Make them some offers.

Default Not crazy. Would a C4S or C2S satisfy you?

I say you buy in the market you are in. Price predictions? Who here bought Bitcoins at $2? Who bought 993s and 964s by the dozen 10, 20 years ago? This is how I applied my own advice—

In spring I looked for a 997 base C2 for under 40k $ and 40k miles. I used a dozen online sites, including PCA Mart, contacted dealers across county, and spoke with indy garages with top reputations over years. What I found was I could buy a 996, or pay 53 for the 997. I showed the $53k listing to a local authorized salesman. They had just taken a trade in of a 2013 991 C2 with sport chrono bose and 14 way seats but no pasm, sport exhaust, entry, adaptive lights, mileage 23.4, white. I paid 67. Dealership provided new brakes tires and full 30k miles service. I decided the price was worth confidence that I would not soon need bushings, suspension, arms, hoses, etc. whatever premium I paid was worth getting it May 1, saving the costs of traveling to where an acceptable alternative was, and having the modern size, tech, and dependability. To me a base Carrera is all I need for a couple of track visits a year, and long trips, and all year driving.

Maybe.

In mid-May I purchased my 2019 Carrera S, with 5500 miles, similarly equipped to the OP's potential car. However, my car has 5 years of warranty (May 2020 in service date) and I have 2/3 of car under PPF. I was out the door for $107,500. So, I'm guessing a 4GTS would be worth maybe $10k-20k more. $130k should very high water price, even in this market. $6k less than sticker is just stupid money and in two years the car will barely be worth $100k. That's Mercedes level of depreciation. The market will normalize within the next 24 months and then it is going to get really ugly.
