Default Kline headers not lining up

Does anybody have experience with Kline headers for 991.1?

Trying to install a pair of street headers on my GTS with an IPE exhaust on it. IPE lined up perfectly with the factory headers (installed a few months ago) so took off the headers and kept the IPE exhaust bolted up thinking the Kline headers would fit just like the factory but not the case.

Here are some pics, I don't see how I could get the IPE to fit, even if I took it off and tried to align it with the Kline headers but what do you guys think? Is there enough adjustment if I loosened up the IPE exhaust to have it line up right? Had to step away anyways since I need to buy bolts tomorrow (they were used kline's so they didn't come with the flange bolts).

I tried pulling the headers up to line up with the flange on the IPE but I didn't want to put too much pressure on the headers and pop a weld or bend something because it wasn't going to line up without a LOT of pressure.

Probably best to break everything loose and start from there. I had installed the FVD Brombacher Sport exhaust (center muffler delete) with the OEM headers and when I went to install the M&M Headers from FVD, we found it easier to tear it all off and start the installation from the exhaust flange rearward.

When we aligned the rear center section, we also eliminated the stock supporting band clamps as they were causing issues. The center section is securely bolted to the cat flanges with six(6) bolts, 3 on each flange, so it’s got all the support it needs and isn’t going anywhere. I checked after 2000miles and everything is secure with no signs of looseness or rattling of any sort.
Eliminating the center band clamps may help with the alignment issues.
Good Luck

Tom

Before you bolt on the headers, place the flange side of both the OEM and the Kline flat on a bench top. You can then visually compare and measure the Kline set against the OEM for flange to cat center dimensions, cat flange position and orientation, etc. With today’s modern equipment, the Kline should be an exact match but some tolerances may have been exceeded at time of manufacturing resulting in a non-matching fit up. No experience with Kline so I would have to assume they are a close match.

I think I’ll bolt up both headers and then reinstall the IPE exhaust, there is no play in how the headers go on but the rear section does have a little.

Hopefully get these done today!

Interesting, because the weight of the center pipe/muffler would further be supported by the side muffler bracket. Therefore, the header bolts and gasket aren’t being completely leveraged to support all of that rear weight of the center pipe/muffler. I’d still prefer the bands, but I can appreciate the ease of alignment and simplicity of install.

Yep forgot about the two(2) studs on each of those brackets that tie into the center section ends. All in all, more than enough support for sure.

I just needed to be patient! As soon as I took the other side header off the whole exhaust dropped down and aligned perfectly. Didn't have to undo the cat-back section.

Loving it! Add's a nice bit of torque thru the revs, you can definitely feel it BUT now I have a CEL! I've heard the Kline's can do that and it has the o2 spacers also, that is a bit frustrating. Has the 200 cat's, the CEL came on after about a 15 min drive.

Success is a good thing! Glad it all came together.
Wierd about the CEL as I am running a 200 cell car on my FVD Brombacher headers and it went on and no CEL at anytime. Not sure why one 200 cell would throw a light and another wouldn’t. O2 sensors are in the same relative position, Pre and post cat.
Some manufacturers like FVD, Fabspeed and Soul advertise a guaranteed no CEL, even without a tune so I’m not sure what ‘silver bullet’ is making this work.
Bummer though!

Just get the soul o2 spacers, they are not too prices and should resolve your issue.

is there a difference in spacers? These have spacers in the rear sensor.

im going to try and clear the cel, when I first started it up there was a massive amount of smoke that came out from them, im guessing a bunch of build up from the previous owner? It might have caused a reading the computer didn’t like. Now that it’s cleared up and running clean it might not trigger it again? All I can think of.
