Default Targa 4 GTS dent fixing?

Hey all

My beloved 991.2 Targa 4 GTS had an unfortunate run in with a deer. Deer appeared to be ok but he left 2 small dents in the front wing and 2 in the rear wing. The front wing also seems to have nudged back wherein the drivers door makes a sort of 'pop' when i open it. Ouch.

Porsche have intro'd me to M&A Coachworks here in London who have advised that as the wings are aluminium, the dents cant be fixed and they'll need to be replaced. I have no reason to believe they're not being honest but was wondering if anyone here has any insights on whether the attached pics look fixable rather than just requiring of £3.5k of work?

Thanks in advance for any insights and watch out for deer, folks.

A Paintless dent removal guy can probably fix all three of those. That's where I would start. Why does the door "pop" if there is no damage to it?

Paintless dent removal is the answer. I've had dents removed on aluminum with no issue.

For the rear quarter area, there should be access behind the panel. If not, they can glue pull it out. At least on the 997, I've been able to access inside the rear quarter area by removing the rear speakers inside of the car which gives access inside of that area. For the front fender, I would not replace those, they should be able to gain access from behind the headlight.

I had as similar dent in my rear quarter panel in almost the same place on my 991 Cab. You need a good guy to do this, not some random mobile service. They have remove the rear tail light, the rear wheel, and inner wheel well liner to get into that area. Took four hours on mine and the guy - who is supposed to be the best in the city - said it was challenging. The Glue Pull stuff won't work and can damage your paint, don't try it.

Sounds like your front quarter panel moved from the strike. You can loosen the bolts and try to re-adjust it, but you may have to replace that front quarter panel as well.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I've booked in with M&A Coachworks. While its not a cheap option i think its best to get it back to absolute perfect.

On the plus side, at least it didn't smash the headlight too (or kill me!) as i shudder to think what a replacement PDLS + unit costs.

Keep us posted how the repair goes. You may still want to try paintless dent repair prior to replacement of the panel. There is no harm in at least trying that and then replacing the panel if you're not happy with the outcome. But I'd prefer to retain the original panel and paint when possible.

The front fender is aluminum and paintless dent removal will work just fine on this minor dent. The fender can then be realigned so that it no longer interferes with the door. I believe the rear fender is steel and is part of the cars unibody. In that case the "panel" cannot be removed or replaced without cutting and welding. The panel should be workable by a good pdr tech or if not, will have to be "pulled" and probably repainted.

PDR all the way. I think the front ones are easier. The back one is a bit sharp, so I think the PDR may not work as good as the front 2.

PDR is like magic! I watched a dent on my passenger side hip completely disappear in about 20 minutes. Highly recommend a reputable craftsman.

Thanks all. I spoke to M&A Coachworks who are pretty sure that as the front wing has nudged back and is now obstructing the driver door, its going to be a new front wing.

I shall jump back in here with pics of the finished job in a week or so and hope for community sympathy due to the amount of money it cost 🤣

Sorry to hear that you had an encounter with a deer - hope you are alright.

For the material damage to the car, your insurance will not cover the total amount of the repair?

It seems you’re set on wanting the new panels.... Have you considered that the body shop makes more money with the panel repair? Have you searched out a very good PDR guy. Both of those panels are accessible and repairable. The front wing may just need a minor realignment. Many shops today don’t use old school skills, and just see insurance money for major repairs.

If anything, at least keep the rear wing for PDR. That repair requires major surgery. You certainly risk much more with that repair.
