Default road trip with my 911T, horrible road/tire noise

Recently took the family to another city with 3 hours drive. My car is a 2019MY Carrera T, tires are OEM Pirelli Pzero. When driving at 85-90mph, the cabin was super loud with tire/road/wind noise, felt very uncomfortable (physically with my ears) and annoyed (mentally) almost the whole trip. The noise even echoed in the ears for a while after we arrived.

just wonder if this is normal or has something to do with the tires. any suggestion for quieter tires? Current tires has 20k miles already and might be replaced soon.

thanks a lot

I think when started driving, it was 35/39. After driving a while at >80mph, it was 39/41

The T has less sound proofing than other Carreras. Is this the first time you noticed it?

This is the first time I took a road trip with the T. I think the first half hour I kind of felt it was OK (happy mode about the trip), but after that it was getting worse and worse

I’ve taken several long trips in my ‘19 C4S and drove up to 6 hours straight and felt fine during and after. Even with the PSE on.

I keep comfort pressure, 29/33, and even higher, 31/35, and have a good ride, even on Sport.

I do have the Michelin PS4S. Have owned Pirellis but not impressed with them.

At 20K they are long overdue for a replacement, at least the rear ones.

Just curious How long have you had this vehicle? How many miles have you driven it? Reason I ask is to figure out if anything has changed about the noise characteristics or perhaps were you more sensitive to the noise because you had your family in the car and you were more interested in communicating with them than u see normal driving conditions. I know when I’m just driving myself, I’m one with the car and all of its harmonies. When my family is in the car, it’s different.

also, are you aware that the T specifically has reduced sound/noise dampening than the base or even the S model? That contributes to the louder cabin noise.

lastly, your tire pressure is probably a little high if you’re looking for a quieter ride. But not much.

Surprised it hasn't been said yet...

PZeros are very loud You're also running extremely high pressure.

Drop to 'comfort' pressure (somewhere in the 30 front 34 rear range) and highly consider moving to the Pilot Sport 4S if you want to keep a summer compound on there. Either change makes a decent difference.

Thanks for the suggestion. Last time when I took the car to the dealer for second maintenance (around 17k miles) they didn't suggest change the tire, so I just keep? driving it...

Get new tires, and lower the tire pressure (try 30/33 cold).

Had the car for almost a year and about 3k miles, but first time driving for several hours...
i think partially the problem is driving on state highway was too boring. You don't have other things to focus on (or distract you from the noise), and eventually all you noticed is the noise.
I don't know if speed is contributing factor. Normally wouldn't have the chance to drive at 90mph for a long time

As mentioned drop the air pressure by a bit.

The P Zeros are definitely a noisy tire. I have them as OEM tires on 3 vehicles and will be changing them all out to the Michelin PS All Season 4s to make for a bit safer driving on the shoulder seasons, and for a quieter ride.

Planning on a set of track wheels/tires of the 911.

Try a 911 base or S, and see if they are quieter than the T (which they should be).

Is there less sound deadening in the GTS? I know the T has thinner glass and will be louder, but thought the GTS was similar to the base and S for NVH.

I am sorry to say you bought the wrong car for long family road trips. I use my base 991.2 as a daily and it is still loud when it comes to doing conference calls on the road. If I were to pack some family into the rig, they would not be happy, and my car has less road noise than yours. I've not gone the noise insulation route but that may be the only option for you...plus trading down for a base. Big tires= noise whether they are worn Pirelli's or not. My Michelin's are quieter than your tires but the car is still exponentially louder than my other ride (Q8).

And yes, lower your pressures and get new tires. 31/34 front/rear is pretty close to the standard for the street.

So, you loaded up the wife & two kids in your 911 with 20,000 miles on the tires and drove 85-90 mph?

Interesting.

You need new tires. These tires start getting noisy at about 10K miles. They get really noisy at 15K. Guys that only get about 8K miles out of their tires don't care about noise.
