Since buying my first of 3 Porsches last year, I have purchased some parts and supplies from Suncoast Porsche. Today was the first time I had a warranty issue, on the coils that came with the spark plug change kit for my 2016 Panamera Turbo. I bought the kit in May 2020, and did the spark plug/coil change myself the same month. My local independent Porsche garage, and a Porsche ECU programming expert in Germany both tell me that the cause of my recent flurry of fault codes is a bad coil on Cylinder #1, based on reviews of the many codes that have tripped, as seen on a PIWIS II device. I asked for them to send me one new coil, out of 8, since only one was reporting bad through PIWIS.
If you got this response from your parts supplier, would you ever buy from them again?
"Hey Scott, Just talked to my guys here, So All of our Porsche parts come with a 2 year warranty THROUGH Porsche, IF installed at a Porsche Dealership. I don't think you did install those at a dealer therefore we can't warranty anything and we're not able to send a coil unfortunately...Also it has already been 1 year from when we sent those out, If you were to contact us in the first 30 days of when you got the coils we would've possibly been able to do something but this is what I've been told. Attached is your invoice which you could've brought to the Porsche dealer which then could've been warrantied. Also, We're not 100% Positive the coil is the issue, We've had a few customers go to there local shop that claims to be Porsche certified but realized that the Piwis tester they were using was not Authentic. Some side shops don't have a legitimate Piwis tester and if they use these fake/knock off ones, they can actually fry and damage Porsche parts!! We found that out..Confirmed. Not saying your guy has a fake one, But just stating that there is fake ones out there that are not LEGIT like the Porsche Dealerships have."
This is a Porsche thing - buy another one and if it fixes the issue then hit them up for a refund - if they won't honor that then return the bad one for a refund. That's a shady thing to do but so is the warranty run around.
This is why I buy ALL my parts from FCP euro, lifetime warranty on EVERYTHING they sell even oil LOL. They can get actual OEM parts AND OEM equivalents.
Interesting about Suncoast. I had an interesting exchange with them yesterday. I was ok with the outcome but I'm wondering if I should be questioning it. The filter on the left came out of my 991.2 following an oil service at the dealership. The one on the right is the one that Suncoast shipped to me. I sent Suncoast the photo and this was the guy's response... "Just confirmed, We went and pulled a few off the shelf and compared. The one you got is correct! Just a miss print by Porsche. You're good!" I also spoke directly with them and he assured me it was the correct one and says they receive these filters directly from Porsche. I went a step further and called and spoke to someone at Mahle USA and they couldn't find the model number for the one on the right anywhere in the system. Suncoast overnighted me a new filter at no charge anyway just to put me at ease. Would you be concerned?
Suncoast customer service is if looking at the website is good. After sales issues seem to be problematic. There are so many other dealers to buy from. Sunset Porsche parts, getPorscheparts.Com.
i have a new Mahle here, looks exactly like the one on the right, white w yellow lettering but mine doesnt have #s at top insteqad it says made in austria the correct Mahle # is there OX254..box says mahle ox254d4
I've always had great experiences with Suncoast and have ordered everything from aftermarket upgrade parts, to OEM, to Porsche swag. I've even had a few issues with fitment of clothes, and they've always been great with taking it back and shipping new items. Honestly, even the response from them that was posted above seemed reasonable and well within their specific warranty policy. Then again, maybe that's just me. Here's the deal, if you really are displeased, just take your business elsewhere. I've always believed in the power of our personal wallet. There's always someone else willing to work maybe just a little harder for our money.
With a title like this, you know you will get just as many owners giving positive feedback to Suncoast.
They have helped me made one-offs happen, their prices are excellent (I don't live in the US so whatever price comparisons is nothing compared to the prices I have to pay local and still have to wait for the same shipment from Germany), highly responsive. They're and will always be my first stop of call for everything Porsche.
Suncoast has decent and competitive prices, but their shipping costs negate the price savings sometimes. Also, I hate how they pack their shipment with sticky, semi-shredded cardboard box remnants. Gross.
I have recently bought from Sunset Porsche parts and got some better prices with shipping. I want to try to support getporscheparts as they are a rennlist sponsor, but their website is not easy to navigate to find parts.
Suncoast is (since I moved recently) just down the street for me. I stopped by a few weeks ago and introduced myself to my new SA. Seems like a pleasant and friendly dealership.
As to parts, I shop Pelican, Suncoast, Sunset Porsche, getporscheparts.com and (oddly) Amazon for routine parts. I bought my OEM front disks and pads from Suncoast because they had the best price. Pelican usually has oddball parts (brake springs, etc.). Sunset would be my go-to for most anything. They got me a special order splined wheel bolt adapter when I lost mine somewhere during my recent front brake job. (I subsequently removed the accursed "security" bolts and put 4 normal bolts on.)
I've heard many people quote FCP Euro as a good source of parts as well.
