Default Prepping for smog, no smiles per miles -- More like frowns

So I'm trying to get my 50th AE ready for smog. I have the Carista bluetooth module hooked up to check for readiness. I've been getting "NOT READY EGR System." I've probably put close to 700 miles on the car trying to get it ready.

I've done the recommend drive cycles from the forums. Both the BMW one and the Porsche one. I tried yesterday, no joy. I did it again this morning, twice! No joy. I even read a couple threads where people suggested letting the car idle for 20mins. Again no luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be great if I knew exactly which drive cycle I needed, eg, 50-60mph? 20-30mph? Cold start idle? What!? I ordered an iCarSoft CR 2.0 Pro and an Autel MD806. Hoping they will give me a bit more information.

BTW, driving 50-60mph for 15-20mins is hard! So is driving 20-30mph for 3.5 minutes! This is ridiculous.

Any words of wisdom are appreciated! I've never had any issues like this with any of my other cars.

I was in the same position recently. Attempted to perform the drive cycle, but after a couple minutes realized it was impossible in an urban area. (Might be doable at 03:00 am). Instead, I took the car out and flogged it, and to my surprise my OBD reader indicated it was ready. My advice is to put it through it's paces, both high and low performance over quite a few miles, and see if it gets resolved.

Sadly, I should have flogged the car. I was just so deflated to not have the ECU ready and the manner in which I had to drive the car. The past 2 days, I've driven the car 3+ hours trying to get it in a ready state. I. should have just opened her up instead.

Holy charges batman! The dealer starts at least $450 to get the car into a smog readiness! Could be more depending on how long it takes!

Anyone got a PWIS in the bay area that could help force the monitoring to allow me to smog!?

I'm going for one last drive this evening to see how it goes. Wish me luck.

sounds like it might be cheaper to just slip the testing guy a $50

Ok quick update. Just went for another drive to try to ready the ECU.

I received my iCarSoft CR 2.0 Pro today and plugged it in. Looking at the I/M Readiness, it shows that the Oxygen sensor is "INC". So no joy still. It does look like the Evap System is "OK" now.

Any suggestions on how to get the Oxygen sensor to an "OK" state?

BTW, I did followed the suggestions. Driving 50-60mph on the freeway is lots of fun! NOT! I took Aselllus's suggestion and did the ol' italian tune-up on the way back home and that seemed to have set the Evap to OK. Now I just need to figure out how to get the O2 sensor to a ready state.

Note, any parts related to smog and pollution have 8 year warranty in the US. That should include O2 sensors

When looking at the scanner, everything is working as expected. No check engine lights or anything.

I just don't know what drive cycle is needed to get the oxygen sensor to move to a ready state. This is absolutely asinine and a complete waste of time. It's a complete blackbox. Meanwhile I'm out there burning gas and creating unnecessary pollution driving in circles. Plus driving below the limit is a bit dangerous as well!

Did you try cold start and idle for 3 minutes? Try cold start in the morning and don't touch anything and let car idle for 3 minutes.

Yup! Did that one multiple times. The worse part is not knowing which part I need to do to set the o2.

Going for another drive now!

Back from a 1-hr and 50-mile drive. No joy. Oxygen sensor still not in a ready state.

Yoda, when you do drive cycle fuel level must be between 25% and 75% no more no less. If nothing works then you better consult with dealer. It's frustrating thing I know. Good luck.

I’m just curious, all this effort to pass smog is because your car isn’t stock right?
