OP is looking to clean wheel wells, not wheels.
I agree. It’s mud. It used to have water in it. Its dehydrated. So hydrate it. Use a power washer and soak and blast it. Your have radiators in the front of the wheel well so why use harsh chemicals. If that doesn’t work. Get a bucket and long handled brush and give it a scrubbing. I recommend the least aggressive way to clean anything.

For sure, I'm just looking at options to clean the wheel wells and underbody (as much as possible) while the 911 is parked since I had to drive it on a salty road on it's way to the garage.

Hopefully a mild winter so that GT3 can hit the streets again soon!

Kranzle pressure washers are the best!

Below is a before & after using a commercial steamer. A fair amount of time spent with a brass brush on the control arms etc. I primarily used Optimum Power Clean, which I think is citrus-based. Obviously get as much as you can outside with a hose before bringing it in for the final work. A stiffer long handled brush is good for this. Even clean, the wheel wells won’t look great without some type of undercarriage spray. I used some Griot’s I’ve had sitting around forever; probably better options these days. Note to put something down underneath using the spray, Griot’s at least makes the floor super slippery if it gets on it.

Since my callipers (base black) look very dull, I am interested in that Optimum Gloss Coat. Could you please give an insight, since googling does not show precise results for your product. Thank you!

What is everybody using to make their callipers shine again? Was thinking of just using plain ol WD40. Good idea?

For my wheel wells and calipers, all those areas are scrubbed with Simple Green, Rinsed well with the Kranzle. The big reds are then coated with Optimum Gloss Coat. The painted wheel well areas are hit with a quick coat of RejeX Wax. All the black plastic is coated with Aerospace 303 Protectant.

Sorry, I don't think the OGC will help any on faded black calipers.

Like Lexvan and others, I have done this on my 991 with a simple detailing brush, carwash soap and lots of steam

I went a step further and did 2 coats of Avalon Ceramic once I was done cleaning (on as many surfaces I could get my hands on

Now mud/grime just washes off with electric power washer

Also removed rear bumper and did the same to anything I could access

No. Try a rubbing compound to get the oxidation off of the finish.

Hi. I wash my 997.1 by hand 1-2x per month and can never seem to get the rims and calipers squeaky clean (don't have a power washer). I was thinking to use 3MHigh Power Brake Cleaner, spray it on and rinse it off, but thinking it might be too strong and risk the paint on the rims and calipers. any thoughts on using that product? overkill? what should I be using instead? also, suggestions on safe-to-use brushes for the rims/calipers? I have a cordless drill and was considering one of those brush attachments that could quickly clean the rims too (although all the reviews warn of scratching the rims). appreciate the feedback!

Larry at AMMO NYC is the best. Pan the Organizer has a video on detailing wheel wells (as well):
