Default New Tire Install: Dealer or Indy?

I'm one of these guys that usually uses a dealership for everything. It's naive for sure, perhaps it offers a level of comfort, but at a price.
Looking to replace some Michelin 4S tires. Dealer's quote is ~ $1200 for the rear. Haven't asked the highly regarded Indy in my area.

Please tell me I'm an idiot or not for considering the Dealer route.

My dealer matched the indy offers I got (from Tire Rack and indy) for purchase and mounting of 4 Mich 4S. The advantage the dealer had was a new Hunter alignment rack and the tech schooling me while doing the alignment. It was worth it to me but I am sure any solid indy could do the same.

Quality Indy, the Dealership techs I have met have never impressed me.

Look up tire prices on tire rack and discount tire. That’s about what you should be paying for them plus another $25-30 to mount and balance. If you’re paying more than that, the extra dollars are being paid for your level of comfort- maybe loyalty to the shop/dealer, or you’re giving money away just ‘because’.

In DFW, one of our local dealers was cheaper than Tire Rack for the rears. $980 out the door with centerlocks, plus service loaner. First vehicle for me that I ever used dealer for tires.

Or maybe you live in Southern California. Here’s local dealer pricing as of today:

$1560 set of MPS4S (same as Tire Rack - net of current $120 rebate)
$200 Mount and balance
$300 Alignment
$404 Oil change (net of $125 promo)

I did not go anywhere...I used The Tread Connection. Very in line with the other/tire rack prices. Came right to the house, they have the best and latest equipment. Done in 45 minutes...simply the best IMSO.

Seems high since you could likely get 4 installed for $1500ish.

TR now owns ASAP Tire. They have a mobile unit based in the Schaumburg area. See if they'll come to your home or office. $25.
