For those that have done both. If you were only going to do one or the other, would you put a tune or sport cats on your 991.2?
sound or tune?
If and when I do a tune I think I will go with a Softronic or FVD tune.

On my 991.2, I went with high flow cats first and it transformed the sound drastically, at least for me. A tune will definitely put your 911 on the next level of performance. It’s all what you deem is more important to you. I like good sound, exhaust and sound system!

I went tune first: Carrera S --> APR K04.3 GTS turbo upgrade + stage 3 tune. For me, I couldn't justify ~$3k on an exhaust that just makes things sound better. Granted it would be nice, but it fell below my threshold of importance. My next upgrades will probably be focused on suspension (I've got a DSC V3 controller on order, but may well change to Tractive DDA or similar), and after that it will be brakes. In other words, I'm all about the tangibly functional aspects of performance because I track the car. At the end of that, if I'm still wanting the sound, only then will I consider exhaust components.

Tune for me.
I am not a fan of how the 991.2 sounds. Sounds better with HFC and headers, but not good enough to upgrade at this time.
Might change my mind at some point, but for now felt that my car needed a bit more power.

For sure tune first - REALLY wakes the car up (especially base Carrera) and is properly fast. Fabspeed muffler delete on my 2017 C2 and still has OE cats due to active CPO warranty.

Your CPO warranty is now likely toast on the drivetrain if anything goes wrong FYI. Dealers can use the tune as an excuse. May as well do sport cats too.

Looking for more sound and a bit more response? Sport Catalytic Converters get the job done. If you're looking purely for performance, there is no equal measure to the added gains of an ECU tune.

Either are nice depending on what you’re looking for. Zero power increase once flashed with the exhaust modifications, so it would be purely for aural pleasure. No need to wait on the flash, especially if doing APR, as none of the hardware mods substantially alter VE enough (or at all) to require any changes beyond what the ecu is capable of during normal operation.

It really depends on what you want first. Improved exhaust acoustics, or seat of the pants thrills.
I personally am a fan of doing bolt-ons first, then finishing it off with a proper tune to optimize performance for the parts that have been added. Of course, this is providing said parts don't require a tune. I'm looking at you, Subaru.

Usually I would do bolt ons first and then tune, but on the 991.2 there is not much power advantage in exhaust mods-for me I did the tune first and it was AMAZING. If you are concerned with maintaining warranty, then exhaust mods first and save the tune for after warranty is gone.
