Default Rodent Damage

Recently came to terms on a 991.2 CPO C2. Signed and returned all paperwork to the dealer. A day before taking delivery I received a call stating the car was not ready due to rodents chewing through some wiring. The dealer has offered to repair the damage prior to me taking delivery.

Im obviously concerned as a few things come to mind

1. Will the CPO be affected given the newly discovered issues.

2. how do I ensure all affected wiring has been found and addressed? I can’t see them being able to guarantee no further wiring issues resulting from rodent damage.

3. Do I have the option to refuse delivery and cancel the purchase given the vehicle is not in the same condition as when I signed the paperwork?

im worried I may be getting into a “rats nest” of issues and problems down the road should all affected wiring not be discovered by the dealer.

Any thoughts or similar experiences ?

My "experience" of this type of problem is that the rodents go after the tubes that carry liquids, no the electrical wiring.
However, your case might be different.

Have you considered buying a cat?

I would run as fast as I could from that deal. In my view rodent damage is a half step better than flood damage. You never know what else they’ve chewed on that is a looming problem (no pun intended)

NF.

Couldn’t agree more!! Many future problems lie ahead and you’ll only be kicking yourself for not walking away when you had the opportunity. I wouldn’t consider it no matter how great of a deal you’re offered including any extension of warranty.

in our cars it's the opposite, the rodents LOVE the electrical wires as newer cars use some environmentally friendly soy based wiring the rodents LOVE.

Honestly you can refuse the car since you haven't taken possession of the car. The dealer informed you of a problem after you signed paperwork. I would refuse the car.

I would skip the car unless they can offer you additional discount or maybe Fidelity Warranty after CPO is complete.

There was a thread somewhere on here, not too long ago, with rodent damage. Something like $18k in damage. Probably an extreme example, but nonetheless I'd run far and fast. There will be another car.

Get picture and list of wire harnesses replaced. My friend had rodents shew wires on three of his cars. Nice buffet.

fixed and zero issue after.

can’t splice wires and you should ask dealer to remove all under body panels and drop engine for a thorough inspection.
Car is still CPO so if you find another problem, take back.

if a Porsche dealer is far far away from you and it is PITA to take it to a dealer, then maybe reconsider.....

The CPO will not be affected but rodent damage is not covered by a warranty.
I would not say you need to walk away, just make sure the harnesses are replaced and not repaired.

For sure DO NOT buy that car. I am the extreme case where a single rat ruined both the engine wiring harness and the body wiring harness, resulting in a 30,0000 dollar repair bill and waiting 6-12 months for Porsche to make a body wiring harness. 2017 991.2 C2s. So anything with rodents chewing wires is NOT worth it. Luckily my insurance is covering the repairs, but I am sure the value of my car for trade-in or resale will plummet. I plan to keep the car and hopefully the repair will be done right and the car will be back to normal, but who knows. So as others have said, run away as fast as you can!

Hate to tell you but I'm a entomologist and I own pest control companies. I have been working to develop a rodent repellent device for this exact purpose/reason. Patent issues have gotten in the way but I'm not done yet.

"Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door." Might be great advice, but it always sounded like a threat to me.
