Quote: I think if you really keep your heart fine you should start with a code reader like Autel,... Cobb access port can read, reset the code and you can tune your ÉCU and PDK....

Seriously last time I had an issue and tried to get info from another forum everybody said change the battery then the spark plugs then the coils then ...
i would have spent 1500$ while it was a 100$ speed sensor.
do yourself a favor and buy a diagnostic tool

good luck 🍀👍
Agreed, were making logical guesses but in all reality either a shop or a code reader would be a smart choice, code reader is a must if you plan on doing any of your own maintenance too.

Quote: 8 year old 911 on an original AGM... A car of yesteryear would be fine with this, particularly if it checks out in a tester. The 991 seems to annihilate batteries like nobody's business for reasons unexplained and, like many other modern cars, throws a ****fit if anything is even slightly wrong with the power supply.
hmm I’m not sure about that generalization, in 8 years, I’ve put 35k miles and replaced first battery a couple of years ago

Good luck. My guess is the battery as well.
Good on your dealer btw for starting with that as opposed to a whole bunch of expensive alternatives.

Dealerships charge a premium for new batteries. I’d bring it to a reputable Indy for a new battery and in the future the OP should invest in a CTEC.

Hope it's the battery! Got a bunch of error messages on my 2017 911.2 C2s. Put in a new battery and no change. Got towed to dealer and serious rodent damage. 6-12 months at dealership and so far insurance has paid out $30,000 bucks!

So did homeowners pay that, or was it auto. Just curious..

Fixed! :)
Ok, so here is the update.

Drove the car over to Porsche Vancouver Thursday morning at 8:30 and by 10:15 I received a text saying the issue was the "rear speed sensor". $200 part and $300 diag fee. I asked them to double check the (vintage 2012) battery and they requested to replace it as well ($660 CND). They flew in the sensor overnight and I was able to pick my car up by 4:30 and Friday and Porsche Vancouver gave me 10% off with PCA membership. It drove just fine Friday night so I went out yesterday for an hour and its seems perfect!

I hope this addresses the issue fully. I am still looking for a 3rd party warranty that is available in Canada - seems to be harder than I expected to find.

Very happy with Porsche Vancouver. Certainly not cheap, but at least you feel like they care about getting back on the road. No charge (Golf) rental, car wash and they cleaned my winter car matts. Must have been a slower day in the service department. Interestingly, they had no less than 12 Taycan's on the lot on Friday - 2 in the show room and what looked like a bunch being PDI'ed.

BTW I looked for a comparable battery locally - there is not much (read anything) available right now. $660 CAN is not cheap, but the dealer did given me 10% off with PCA membership. COVID supply chain issues remain. I never did get a call back from Scan or BMC.

Also, for those here in BC, I renewed my ICBC today as well $1854!!! for the full year with full coverage, Roadstar etc. That is $1100 less that the same coverage last year and and think the lowest I have paid for car insurance - maybe ever.

Thanks for everyone's comments and I hope to see you out on the road!

Glad to hear you're back on the road. $660 for a battery, yikes! I put an Anti Gravity lithium battery in mine last year. Very happy with it, and over 40lbs lighter. Wasn't much more than the $660. I renewed my insurance before the rate cuts, so I'm hoping to get a cheque back from ICBC soon. See ya out there!

@Wolpertinger where did you get the Anti Gravity battery from? Is there a local supplier?

For ICBC, you can check your refund amount here https://enhancedcare.icbc.com/savings-and-refunds

I got mine directly from Anti Gravity. Initially I had some issues with trouble codes on the car when it was cold outside. Anti Gravity made some changes to the battery's system and sent me a new one, and paid to have the old one sent back. No more problems since then. They have been great to deal with. I love the built in battery reserve system. If you run your battery flat, you just press a button on the key fob and the battery springs back to life, letting you unlock the car and start it up again. Thanks for the ICBC link. I'll check it out!

Thanks for the info, i just read your thread on this topic. Considering the outrageous price Porsche Canada charges us for their batteries (thanks OP for the info), I think I will likely get an AG battery when I need one.

Good to hear it was a much smaller repair and not PDK.

As for purchasing AGM battery locally in Vancouver, when I first looked ~6 months ago, costco.ca had the Energizer H8 AGM on their website. When I decided to buy it, the item was no longer available. Burnaby and Richmond warehouses didn't have it either, but I asked them to check and the only one they found nearby was downtown Vancouver warehouse with one remaining. Fortunately I was able to pickup - it wasn't phantom stock and had fresh date stamp.

As for ICBC savings - I did a renewal for another car recently. Was around $300 less than previous year.
