Default Tire Pressure

Okay so someone who seems to be pretty smart on this list suggested running the backs at 31psi and front and 29 psi on the msps4's with the 305's in back. I have not yet had the chance to drive this in a truly spirited fashion (the mountains) but it feels great so far. The issue is the idiot light on the dash. Do I have to adjust the to 31F - 34 R to make the light turn off ?

If you go into the TPMS menu it will tell you how much air to put in the tires to hit target. I think if it's more than 4psi off target it yells at you -- easy enough to figure out by adding a little at a time and seeing when it turns off.

PIWIS is capable of programming in tire sizes and desired pressures -- your dealer can do this, likely for a fee. Haven't toyed around with non-PIWIS units to accomplish this though, maybe I'll try that later today if I have time.

Go into the tire pressure menu, select "comfort pressure", select "partial load". That will wind up giving you the 29F/31R that the OP's smart buddy suggested. No need to use PIWIS for this.

Straight out of the owners manual -

The lowest partial load/comfort pressure on a stock .2 is going to be 31/33 for the 19" winter package.

For the 20" summer setup with rear 305s the programmed partial load pressure is 31/36.

My MFD's various TPMS settings match the "4S" columns for available tire sizes and pressures.

I assume it's different on a .1 and that's what we're talking about here..?

If you run too low for too many times, you may also get a chassis warning. FYI. See manual for this.

My front are set 31/32 cold (60F) and rear are set too 33/34. Warmed up at 80F gives me 34/35F and 36/38 rear.

Well yes, but that's not what's in my manual for the 2017 991.2 Carrera S. I just went out to the car, got the manual out and took the following picture. For the Carrera and Carrera S, the part load, comfort pressure is 29/31psi. For the Carrera 4/4S, it is 29/33psi. At no point is there any reference to a 31/36 setting - the closest is the comfort pressure, full load of 31/39psi. Perhaps your manual is different, which would certainly explain why this kind of thread seems to crop up all the time.

And yes, that's my thumb intruding on the bottom :-)

Very interesting. I know the owner's manual has numerous revisions -- other comparisons of data on other threads have wildly different page numbers for a given paragraph of text. Makes sense that this was also adjusted at some point.

I wonder what the difference is between early production .2s and later production, if anything but the printed manual (and preset pressures on the MFD)

And I just took these pictures for my car from the Porsche “Good to know” app. Let the confusion continue..........

As far has I'm concerned, these numbers are not set in stone. I vary around them depending where, when and how i'm going to drive the car. I spent most of the summer at 29F/32R cold. Then this fall I went to 33F/36R cold.

yep. different tires call for different pressures, too.

it'd be nice if the end user could define the values instead of needing a PIWIS

That’s because you’re looking at *standard* tire pressure and not *comfort* tire pressure. If you scroll down on the same page in the app, you’ll find the comfort tire pressures which are 29/31psi for Carrera/S, 29/33psi for Carrera 4/4S, and 31/36psi for Turbo/Turbo S.

I just downloaded and checked this for MY 2017 - 2019, and it’s consistent throughout, so there’s really no inconsistency at all between the online manual and the printed manual for MY 2017 through 2019.
