I have seen some videos on Youtube that show that these high frequency gadgets don't work very well. Of course I take it with a grain of salt so who knows since it's on Youtube. Measures I took were getting all food sources out of the garage and blocking off any access holes to the garage. I also got a very bright LED shop lamp and put it on a timer to shine during the night under the engine. Last thing was putting a piece of cardboard soaked with peppermint spray under the engine. I have a motion detection camera under the engine too. Probably the most effective things I did were getting stuff like dog food out of the garage and sealing off ways rats could get in. I also have various traps around, but even when the rat was in the garage it never got caught in a trap. Clever little beast! Car has been fine. I even got an extended warranty for it without any problem. I did that mainly for the PDK, as rodent caused damage is an insurance issue.
