Did homeowners or auto insurance cover that?

Yes. Looks like comprehensive insurance will cover it. I have USAA.

Dflowerz, sorry to hear. Give Matt a call at Obsessed Garage. He's a great guy, a Rennlister @Money2536 , and has been through this with his GT3. $10K sounds light.

I've often wondered if automobile comprehensive insurance will pay for it. There were all those cases disallowing termite damage. I suppose rodent attacks are more "sudden" than termite chewing.

This is a classic Comprehensive play. And why many who winter hibernate their cars, don't drop that portion of their car insurance during said time period. State insurance laws, dependent.

Bit of a small delay with the insurance, but the estimate has now been approved by the insurance adjuster so hopefully work will resume next week. The rat that did the damage has since disappeared and not been caught in any of my multitude of traps. Clever rodent! At least this happened during the winter when the car does not get driven that much.

Yes, its a big problem. Auto manufacturers use vegetable or palm oils in the rubber to reduce use of hydrocarbons. Really tasty stuff for the rodents.
happened to my buddy, they ate through his M5 and GLS450, very $$$$$$$

always use traps in garage or spray with big cat urine (feed stores may sell this) on the outside or make sure there are lots of traffic in the garage to prevent rodents going in.

Good to hear of your insurance approval.
I had an Audi before which was parked outside. Normally a daily driver, but left undriven for 2 weeks one fall. First start, ABS and traction control lights lit up. Rodent(s) built a small home with leaves in engine bay and chewed through ~15 wires on ABS controller.

The saga continues. This rat was a chaos bomb. Dealer sent me this pic of the engine out. All good. Work getting done. Then they found out that the rat had also chewed the body harness which will involve removing the interior and the transmission to replace that harness. That will require a new estimate and approval from my insurance. At least it's winter and driving conditions are bad. But yeah, I am now considering the small possibility that this car may never be fixed, but it would take a lot of expense for the insurance to total it.

Latest update: Porsche in Stuttgart will have to hand make a body wiring harness as the car is a 2017 and I guess none in stock. Delay of 6-12 months.....! Total cost for the repair is now just over 30,0000 bucks. I am not freaking out because this is a play car that I do not need for transportation. When and if I get it back it will seem like getting a new car. Not kidding! Lessons for all to heed are make sure you have good comprehensive insurance and do not assume your pristine garage does not have rats and mice. My garage will forever more be full of traps and all types of rodent repellants.

**A little Google search informed me that wiring harnesses are still mostly all hand made.....!

Wow. Thanks for reminding the rest of us about precautions we ought to consider. Hoping this all works out for you eventually.
