Default Oil level not available?

Just changed the oil on my 2019 T and when I tried to check the level the computer says it’s
not available right now. What does that mean? Did I over fill it?

One of the bad quirks of the car. Once you lift the engine lid, oil level gauge is inoperative. You need to drive the car for 10 minutes or so for the MFD to reset, then you will be able to read the oil level gauge. Real pain in the ***, but it is what it is.

I believe that driving the car will reset the reading. Wait till engine cools down after the drive and then re-check.

As above.

You don't have to wait for a cool down. Just drive for a while. In my experience it is more like 20 mins.

also i have seen that when it does finally read notice where the level is.. shut the car down then start back up drive for a bit more and my level goes down a bit. I then top it off with about a 1/2 quart and and Im good to go from that point on. A good old dipstick would be nice

The real question is will it yell at you if you're dangerously low on oil or does it need those 10-20 minutes to figure out oh wait it's empty?

Default Thanks. Looks like I got it just right. I was worried I overfilled it.

I'm not sure why it would be empty if you just put 8 quarts of new oil in??

The only real issue is for those folks who like their oil level at the top - they have to follow the procedure stated by others above.

One question here is really what is the minimal amount of oil required. If it's 8 quarts, then we can put 8qt in, relax and drive until the measurement shows up. However if it is 8.5qt minimal..

Well, I don't know about empty, but I do know about overfill. I had to wait the 10 minute drive for the car to tell me that I overfilled!

I have an upcoming oil change on my '17 C2. I diy'd mine this past spring, so I have minimal experience. I posted in @bkrantz excellent DIY thread:

https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9892...l#post16390756

I put in exactly 8.00 liters.

I've decided the "fill" amount depends on the angle of the car (on four jack stands, rears up on a raceramp, left rear jacked up, etc) as well as drain time. Plus if the filter is replaced, obviously, but there'd need to be special circumstances for not changing a filter I guess.

I very carefully measured mine, and ended up with the indicator bar exactly one bar below minimum. I check at every fill up; just before starting the car. That way, the engine is warm, the car has been driven, and the oil has had time to settle into the sump while I was pumping gas. Plus it's a consistent method as I'm always doing the same process.

I'm coming up due for a change. Hopefully I remember to turn the ignition on after I drain the oil and before I fill it, see if it screams.

I've gotten in the habit of weighing the oil that I drained and then adding the same amount back in. I nail it within 200 mL every time now.
