Default 991.2 GTS vs 992 C2S

Hi All

If you choose a keeper, which way would you go? A 2018/2019 991.2 GTS in a PTS colour or a 992 C2S. The cost between the cars is roughly 40-50k CAD. Options on both cars would be similar. The GTS will be 10 mm lower, centerlock wheels and have some alcantara.

One thing to note is that if I were to order a C2S or wait for a 992 GTS then I will lose another season and will get the car late in 2021 at the earliest. A 991.2 Turbo S is also in the mix but I need to drive it again, love the look but didn't feel as nimble from what I recall. I'm looking at 50k more on that one compared to a 991.2 GTS.

I don't intend to track the car (max once a year)

Thanks in advance

Nas

If I had the money, I'd do the Turbo S in a heartbeat 🤑

992 Turbo S, it is basically a 991.2 GT2 in sheep's clothing.

The 991.2 GTS is a good balance, second choice would be the 991.2 Turbo.

I'd rather have the old style interior.

Two things that the 992 C2S has in its favor is the 8 speed PDK and its under-rated engine. I've driven the 992 C2S on track, its performance is really impressive.

Everyone should such hard decisions!

Definitely struggling with it, keep going back and forth. Part of me is like take the savings, the other is like who cares (it's minimal over the long term).

The 992 is far more developed than even meets the eye. Read the Porsche press kit and you’ll learn how advanced it truly is. It’s also very complex and owning any of these cars out of warranty is something you really have to weigh. One thing for sure in Cabrio form, the 992 is the most coupe like yet in chassis rigidity. Personally I think it’s better looking than a 991 and gives the illusion of being more compact. Supposedly the cooling is much improved too.I find some of the nannies a little annoying, like the resistance to lane changing, and backing out of your garage means you have to kill the rear camera to close your garage door.

The non-turbo 992s look pretty fugly to me, personally. A Turbo S is also just way too much power for a daily. Frankly I'm happy with my .2 C4S, the GTS is what.. 30 more horsepower? Unnecessary for me.

I was in this very boat in September. My 992 S build was about 150. Was able to get 5-6% off, so low 140s. (sport/premium/18 ways/RAS/carmine red etc). I only sat in one, never drove. Ended up picking up a GTS w 168k MSRP and 8200 miles for the price of a base S.

(I plan to keep the car 5 years)

To me, I looked at it 5 ways

Equivalence:
power/speed
aim for the car (daily/weekend with occasional track)

992 S pros:
new
better interior
spec'd exactly how you want it
will feel 'newer'
8 speed PDK

991 GTS pros
exterior appearance
'special' model vs a S - and comes with sportdesign, PSE etc
maybe a touch faster
well sorted
.2 model
depreciated more
lighter

992 S cons
depreciation
no allocation till Q2 2021
bathtub appearance
'just a S'
.1 model, meaning .1 GTS coming, and .2 during the ownership of the vehicle

991 GTS cons
older model
older interior
7 speed PDK
limited to used market - settle on options

Ultimately I decided that a new 992 was only worth 15-20k more in my book, but not 30+. I felt that the 992 will be jumped by the GTS, GT models and .2 models. So while it feels 'new' now, during the model run it wont retain that 15-20k more. In the end, I found my perfect GTS and had to jump on it.

Looking at a Coupe, with the CPO I'm looking at 4-5 years of warranty left on the vehicle. Like all manufacturers I expect the CPO warranty to not be as comprehensive.

Definitely a daily for me. I will be driving it all year round (swapping winter & summer tires) , doing about 10000 km's annually.

Thanks for this, my current build on my 992 C2S is $177k (PMZP45Z9), figure the 992 GTS might bring it to $183k (will pick Shark blue most likely for another 4k). Here in Toronto, I'm lucky if I get 2% discount. There is a 2019 GTS I'm looking at that was $198 MSRP, asking $150k with 18000 km, in Maritime Blue.

Need to drive both and see what you prefer.

With 992 - you can custom order it to your spec.
991.2 - its a great platform and i prefer the analog gauges and overall layout vs 992. The tech obviously is not as good but that’s secondary for me.

2019 991.2. Tested and vetted. 992 too young and complex.

This may help you with comparisons between the 991.2 & 992 where it counts.

991.2 GTS manual, but I’m biased. I prefer the 991 interior, to any older or newer interior. For me, it’s that sweet spot of new and old. The 992 may be a great car, but I don’t see myself jumping into one now or the near future. I think all three cars are plenty fast and pretty close to quickness. Just go with what you’ll like in the long run, even if you have to wait for a new 992.
