Default 991.2 Winter tire size

Hi all,

First winter with my 991.2. Is Front 245/40R20 Rear 275/40R20 fit this car? Do I need at least 305 for rear tire?

Thanks guys.

Here is a doc that might help:

Sorry, but I believe this tech bulletin is for 991.1 models. Not 991.2 models.

I strongly suspect that the 275 rear tire is too narrow for the 11.5-inch wide wheels on the car.

My winter set for my 991.2 came with the car on 991.1 wheels, 245 front and 295 rear.

If you have an 11" rear wheel you want 295 out back. If you are sporting 11.5" wheels out back you want a 305. (assuming 20" wheels here)

This is what I did - 11.5” Turbo S wheels with 305 Alpin PA4s on my 991.2 GTS

Does everyone try to stay at the same size as the summer setup or something more comfortable for winter?

Looking at 235/40R19 mounted on a 19x8.5 for the front and 295/35R19, mounted on 19x11 for the rear.

Was not sure if I should stay at the sames sizes.

Thanks

This is what I did for my 991.1. Narrower wheels with a smaller diameter are better for winter driving. Makes it easier for the tires to cut through the snow rather then float on top, and the smaller diameter gives you more distance between road and rim to account for awful winter roads. Also, winter tires, which don't last long anyway, cost less in 19" form than 20". I've had separate winter wheels for several cars and always size down from the summer set. No complaints, aside from slightly compromised cornering ability, but I think that would be the case with any winter tire.

Agree. I spec'ed my 991.2 GTS Coupe with 5 lugs and without RAS so I could fit the 19" winter set and change them easily myself. Put them on this morning in my garage, the forecast is for mid 20's later in the week.

But -- although the 295's are a bit narrower than the 305's of the summer 20"-ers, they are still W----I----D---E, so don't think you are magically transforming the winter set to pizza cutters.

Agree 100%. These tires aren't going to turn your 911 into a Subaru Crosstrek or something. But I'll take every snow advantage I can get - within reason!

yup. I use 235/40/19 fronts and 295/35/19 rears for winter in my 991.2 4s without RAS. Bought wheels and conti tires from the dealer for 4k. Works well for NH winters. Summers are 20 inch with PS4S. Wheels and tires not in use stored at the dealership.
