Default PPF: Full Gloss, Partial Satin, Full Satin

So my T needs to go in for a few new PPF panels. It currently has the driver's package plus a bad rear bumper install. There's also couple fair-sized chips in the hood and one above the rocker on the passenger side. Add to that I'm sick of seeing the lines on the A-pillars, roof, and rockers. It's to the point that I've decided to have the full rear quarter panels and full roof installed, plus replacement of the rear bumper and hood.

A stupid thought crossed my mind to have the roof (and maybe hood) done in satin XPEL STEALTH, with the rest of the car gloss XPEL ULTIMATE. The car is Jet Black Metallic. The doors, spoiler, and engine cover aren't PPF'd at all, and I hadn't planned on replacing the front fenders or front bumper, so I'm probably $2,000-$3,000 away from being able to go full satin. If I had literally any other paint color (ex-base black) I would probably bite the bullet and go full satin, but frankly most cars in full matte/satin black look like left-overs from the mid-00's, played-out and tired, and I'm not big on burning cash so it's unlikely I'll go that route.

Before I make a stupid mistake, I wanted to see if anyone has feedback from personal experience, other thoughts, or pictures to share for partial satin/matte cars. Anyone do this and regret it? Anyone not do this and regret it? It seems like there are a fair number of 991 GTs/Rs with at least matte stripes on the hood, roof, and wing. I'm not convinced that will translate well to full panel, non-GT car though.

For reference:
- Here's an install thread on a GT2RS in gloss: https://www.denverautoshield.com/201...amic-coatings/
- Here's an install thread on a Model 3 in satin (over black): https://www.denverautoshield.com/201...ing-in-denver/

So -- have at it. Tell me how dumb or brilliant I am.

I see a lot of Satin /xpel stealth over a black car in my area and every time when I see them on the road I instantly think rattle can job or plasti-dip. I would do the gloss and enjoy the full depth and richness that black cars have.

I do not like matte. I recommend the normal gloss. I normally only do the front and rocker panels as well as an extended piece on the rear quarters.

Matte black is not a great look in my opinion.

Love me some matte wraps, especially on dark colors. To each their own I guess. Xpel stealth is the standard, almost as good as BMW frozen factory colors.

Here’s a Cayman I found on search that looks setup I think the way you were describing. Eh, I’m not too sure that works personally.

Interesting. Thanks for finding and sharing the picture. Looks a little awkward with the gloss pillars adjacent to the satin roof if I'm honest. I bet it would look better if the satin panels were a different color from the gloss, but black/black isn't cutting it.

I appreciate the feedback!

My concern would be that satin and matte are popular now but not a timeless look. A gloss PPF will protect your paint and maintain the classic looks of the 911. It's also likely going to help during resale versus a matte finish may turn off some buyers or make others factor in the cost of removing the film.
