Default New engine air filter and oil filter

Just ordered engine air filter and oil filter from K&N. Anyone have experience with these items? Been using Mahle oil filter, thought I try something different this time around.

makes sense.

im out of warranty now so good time to try.

when did you change your engine air filter, i have 26K miles, figure I got some time. No dusty environments. I did change out the cabin air filters 5K miles ago, those looked fairly clean.

as do I...no sense not just throwing out air filters and replacing them; they are cheap enough

Unless someone hates to waste things that do not need replacing, like me, not matter the cost.

K&N is a good brand. You should have no problem with either. However, don't expect to find much of a performance improvement with the air filter. You may get a +/-5 HP gain that is not really noticeable unless you have a VERY dialed in butt dyno. What you will probably notice is a bit more air induction noise.

If you are doing K&N, you almost need two sets unless you are ok having the car apart for a day or so when it is time to wash, dry, and oil the filters.

Agreed, the spares allow you to clean and oil at leisure and have a "ready to go" set at all times. For DIY's, two sets are a must.

Be sure to not over-oil the K&N Air Filter, if you do it can put an oil film on your MAF sensor on the intake. That in turn can disrupt the proper fuel flow to the engine.

Sorry, I don't believe K&N's add any horsepower whatsoever. If Porsche could get + 5 HP out of an engine by installing a $ 20 more expensive air filter, don't you think they would?

I did use the K&N Oil Filter for my Targa's first oil change. Overall, I like their their filters but the original Porsche filter seems to have better construction. I have always liked that K&N does not use paper as a filter media.. They have their own high flow media. Regardless, I will probably use an OEM filter for the next oil change.

I too hate to waste. I use K&N air filters on my two SU HS6 carbs that are on my MGB's engine. I don't lose sleep over when I get all of the grit, dirt and stuff out of the K&N conical filters because The "tolerances" on what was originally an English agricultural engine are not even in the same galaxy as a porsche engine.

you do hear more induction noise from the K&N set

Great on Triumphs, not in an MG. The car was originally fitted with ZF Stromberg atop an intake/exhaust manifold that had a tendency to catch on fire.

991 don't have a MAF. Non issue.

They do, on the RS models. Lower models get the paper filters, high end model gets the BMC filters. Considering Porsche still charges for keyless entry in 2020 on $100k+ cars, when it is included on a Toyota Corolla, I don't put it past them to cheap out on an air filter.

thanks for the responses.

I think porsche can get 5hp inc just by having different filters, but they dont on purpose just to give us that option....so we can return to dealer and pay high labor costs...
