Default Advice on possible upgrade to an “S”

I have a 2013 Base 991.1 all stock except a Soul Performance exhaust. I love the car, best I’ve ever had, it comes alive at 4K and pulls hard to redline.
its a little low on torque below 4K tho ;( Should I just tune it and be happy or is it worth to jump up to an S. Also I have a 2019 Mustang Bullitt I’m trying to sell privately and maybe due to Covid not having much luck, so trading both cars in on an S or possibly a T might make sense. I paid 56k for my base 991.1 and owe 46k, all the S cars I’ve seen are over 65k tho. Thoughts from the Porsche experts?!

I love my S, but I've never driven a base so can't compare the two. I wonder if you'd be happier going to a 991.2 base. With the turbos, those are easier to put a tune onto and then you've got a real boost in power over a 991.1 S, with around 485HP.

If you like low end torque get 991.2, you will be much happier than 991.1S with Cobb tuning like mine. I don’t crave for turbo (I had 997TT) but rather have NA which I can pull the rev line higher in small island highway.

Test drive a turbo and you’ll never be satisfied with anything else.

I think you would be happier in a 991.2, even just a base. Power loads up before 4K RPM’s with the turbos. If I were you, and if money was an object, I’d find the one car that made me happy and get rid of the two car stuff. Assuming both 991 and Pony car are both solely yours. Why divide your money up? Buy 1 car, the way you want it, and have a blast. JMO. Good luck on your tough decision.

Peak torque on the 991.2 S starts at 1750 rpm. The power delivery at WOT is such that first and second gear go by in a flash. I’ve got one so first hand experience (manual trans).

The base model isn’t far behind.

You won’t be disappointed with a .2 if you go that route.

You're not going to "feel" that big of a difference in a 991.1 base to a 991.1 S. I would look for a 991.2 if you are looking for that extra oomph. Also, for a reasonable cost, you can tune a 991.2 and get a boat load of power and TQ, that is also noticeable.

As someone who has driven for over 6 years in their 991.1 C4S PDK I would love to get a 991.1 C/C4 Manual and drive it a bit harder.

I've heard it's a rewarding experience keeping the rev's up etc..... but have never driven one..... yet.

what should I expect to pay for a 991.2 in great condition?

Default The T

With tune is putting out 500 HP. If you are trying to get best bang for your buck that is the cheapest. That would be my go to however, I have a .1 S and prefer it to the turbo. Admittedly I have never driven a tuned T and this could change my mind. On my S 400 HP is plenty for me but everyone has their own # that makes them happy. I wont track a porsche due to financial considerations but if I did i might want more. With a different battery and rims it would be more but the S is the sweet spot for me as it came from stuttgart. Throw in the brakes and pdcc with sunroof delete and its a very nice package. This is probably why they are more expensive and have held value better.

Tuning your car is going to accomplish little beyond emptying your wallet.

If power and staigthline performance is anywhere near an important factor for you, a 991.1 car is the wrong car for you. You dont want to make the same mistake many others have made and go down a road of emptying your wallet only to see marginal gains that can only be felt via the magic of placebo, or a tenth (to quarter mile) per $5000 spent
For tune-ability and drastically better $$$-per-HP results, get yourself a 991.2 base and go nuts,

I recently "upgraded" from a 991.1S to a 991.1 GTS, and guess what, the difference in HP is not noticeable.. not in the least. But for me, straight-line performance is not important at all.. not even 25% of the equation.. otherwise I could have picked up a 991.2GTS or a 991.2S

good luck

Tbh, now having almost 2 months in my 991.1 C2, I'd just keep the revs higher when driving around. You really do have to keep the throttle open to make it 'fast' but that's fine with me. How often do you drive in manual mode on your PDK? Might wanna try that more.
I too was looking the C2S route as a daily, but as others have chimed in here and other threads, for that kind of driving (non-track) there isn't a huge difference noticeable until you get going way beyond legal limits.

However, Porsche (of course) seems to have figured out turbo tech with the .2, virtually no lag, etc. from what I hear. Good to know, as I don't at all desire a 992, so a last-year model 991.2 looks to be a good option down the road when I'm ready.

I did this exact assessment last year - I had a 991.1 C2 and was looking to upgrade. I test drove both the 991.1 C2S and the 991.2 C2S.

The 991.2 C2S is definitely faster and has some newer features (carplay)- but the NA sound of the 991.1 and the fact that it was 'fast enough' for me made me choose the 991.1 C2S. You can't go wrong with either - just go with what you like more.
