Default Barber PTX

So here on my 2nd day at Barber PTX RS class and driving the new 992 Carrera S.

These cars are noticeably faster that the 991.2 GTS cars previously used as the fleet cars even though they’re rated at 443HP, old GTS were 450. They’ve got a different sound than the previous models, but still aggressive.

The new PDK snaps shifts up and down and are pretty firm. In comparison, the 991.2 Turbo S I drove had more subdued shifts. The 992s where faster through the corners and a well- driven one could pester a Turbo on a track with short straights.

Driven at speed, the 992 doesn’t feel “bigger “ than the previous model and even though I’m not a fan of the dashboard, it’s more legible.

The shift selector works, that the only good thing about it. There’s a button to press, separate from the selector, to engage Park. Needless complexity, the old selector was better. The car has an odd trait that will catch you off guard if you’re not ready for it; in Park, it will move forward or backwards significantly after Park is engaged.

The cars here have the PCCB installed, but one of the cars I drove flashed the brake pad replacement warning at 750 miles on the odometer. I asked about this and was told this was normal wear for track. They’re absolutely fabulous on the track but at a cost.

It’s amazing the beating these cars take and not miss a beat and they feel consistent when you switch and drive any of the other identical 992s. Did have one car with an odd vibration which was likely tire related, that was an outlier.

This is a great experience if you can attend. Except for some traits that I don’t care for, the 992 is a Porsche, enough said.

I'm glad it was posted here, always good to hear how the 991 stacks up against the stuff. Some nice improvements for sure, but still not enough of a difference to have me dig up more cash to get into a new 992.

Not the wrong forum I purposely posted here as a comparison from 991 to 992. I own the 991.2 and using the 991.2 GTS and 991.2 Turbo S as well as yardsticks to highlight differences.

To your point, it could also have been equally posted in 992.

Moderators can ultimately decide.

Few more impressions.

The Symposer may be gone from the 911, you don’t hear hear it in the new model, depending on point of view, good or bad.

The exhaust tone is quite different from my 991.2 PSE, an even deep tone that barks under sharp throttle shutdown. Better or worse depends on personal tastes.

Lastly, the shaved door outside door handles may look nice, their operation is a bit fussy if you open them from their rest position and not extended.

Again, a great time at the course, may consider a 4-day next.
