Would you buy a CPO 911 4S unseen from a dealer 1,000 miles away

I just bought a non-CPO car (but still with ~3 years left on factory warranty) sight unseen from an independent (non-Porsche) dealer. However, the car only had 2,800 miles and based on many photos and a sales rep who I sensed I could trust, I bought the car. With 2,800 miles, it was essentially new, and based on the photos, it looked like it only had 2,800 miles. I agree with another comment that given the CPO, I'd be mainly concerned about cosmetics. I am super picky, so if I was buying a car with 25,000 versus 2,800 miles, I would have taken some additional steps to ensure it met my standards, such as having someone locally check it out (maybe someone on this forum as someone else suggested).
Case in point, I went to see a car locally with only 8,000 miles, and although it wasn't apparent in any of the photos, the interior was more beat up than you'd expect in a car with so few miles.

Yes, I did just that. 2014 C4S CPO car. Drove up ten hours, traded the car I was in(Macan) and drove back with beautiful C4S from Porsche SouthPoint dealer in NC. Needed some entertainment during this whole covid fiasco!

Bought my 1st Panamera 4S from Porsche Westbroward, First time I saw it in person was when it came off the truck, was exactly as stated. Next Panamera came from West Palmbeach, flew down for an overnight to inspect and do papers. My 911 from Ft Myers was only 30 minutes away

Not without an independent inspection. When I bought my '13 S from an out of town dealer, they said the paint was great. The whole front end was covered in rock chips and the door had a big scratch. I went through with the deal, but they paid my bodyshop to repaint it.

It's even possible that a shady dealer may say that work has been done to certify a car, that didn't actually happen. Shocking to imagine, right
CPO is no guarantee, just as a CarFax is no guarantee.

no way...I'm in the market for 911 right now and each time I've seen the car in person vs the website description + detailed photos, I always find a surprise...and it's not the good kind of surprise either. this is both reputable P dealers and other indy dealers too

Thanks to all!
There are two cars I like, one in Minneapolis, the other in New Jersey. Peaceful riots in both cities.
Since I posted this one has come down one percent. Think I will wait awhile longer.
And I think I will stick with my lifelong practice of test drive, inspection and then handing the check over.
Thanks again!

Not sure who you mean by "Porsche"? The certification process is carried out by a dealer who has the interests of his bottom line at heart. A CPO car can have replaced body panels or paint work and still be certified.

under CPO guidelines, there is a limit to how many body panels can be replaced
years ago I was looking at a 2014 turbo with very low miles at a dealer in KS and they would not certify it, the dealer said that it was in an accident that was not reflected on carfax but due to the number of body panels replaced they will not certify it!
I would say , not all dealers are crooks, there are some honest ones out there!

Yes.
I put $500 down on a CPO’d 2014 C4S, 12k miles. Purchased a one-day round trip ticket from FL to TX ($210/RT) - a hedge just in case the car wasn’t as represented. We landed at 8:30am, dealer picked us up at the airport, took us to the dealership and unveiled the car - made quite a production of it (smart on their part), car was in a side showroom with a big bow, gave me and my Dad some Porsche swag, and then I test drove it. Within 2hrs of landing in TX we were on the road back to FL.
Best part - taking my Dad who was 80yrs old at the time to experience it with me. He taught me to drive all motorized devices (e.g. motorcycles, snowmobiles, cars, etc...) like I stole’em and let me tell you we had hell of a fun drive back to FL.
Lastly, I also had 2 instances where it didn’t work out, e.g. the car was misrepresented and I got my deposit back. Just ensure there is an out provision in the contract should the car be misrepresented.
Cheers
