Default Airbag warning light after replacing 14 way seats with 18’s; codes inside

I just bought a set of heated 18 way seats to replace my heated/ventilated 14 way seats. All 18 movement functions work, as well as the heating, but I now have an airbag warning light, with the following codes:

Driver seat:

198 Upper limit value exceeded

198 Upper limit value exceeded

198 Upper limit value exceeded

(Yes, it’s listed 3 times)

Passenger seat:

239 Upper Limit value exceeded

239 Upper Limit value exceeded

239 Upper Limit value exceeded

(Again, listed three times)

Airbag:

24862/611E

Passenger occupant detection (PODS), identification error

I didn’t start the car or even insert the key while removing/replacing the seats.
There is a single connector that my car has in its wiring harness that contains three wires: green/blue, yellow/black, brown. My ventilated stock seat had a connector for this; the 18 way had no place to plug it in. I assumed this was for the ventilation and left it unplugged (naturally, as there’s nothing on the 18 way to plug it into).

I assumed the 198 and 239 codes refer to the missing ventilation connection, but when I try to clear them, I get the “communications error” message.

So what do you think? Could there be a problem with the sensor itself on the passenger seat? A problem with the buckle (or would that throw it’s own code)?

Is this a dealer-only codeI have the Durametric Enthusiast, but it can not clear the code. It will let me clear the airbag code, but it reappears immediately upon clearing.

Thanks for any help,

Jeremy

Did you swap the gray box on the passenger side from your original seats to the 18 ways? I think that Is necessary.

Thank you, yes. That’s exactly what fixed my light. Perfect!

Wow, you are the first person I hear successfully change 14w to 18 ways - I thought it were not possible due to incompatible wirings from factory regarding the seat harness

Yup, entirely plug and play. Naturally, the 18’s with Alcantara don’t have ventilation, so I lost that and I’m getting codes for that because there is a loose plug with nothing to connect to on the 18’s, but it’s not throwing a light or affecting function. Heat and all 18 adjustments work, as well as memory.
Furthermore, my car is a 2014 Cayman S, and the 18’s are from a 2016 911 GTS. I posted here rather than the 981 forum due to higher member traffic. So the electronics are the same across the 981/991 platforms. All the brains for the adjustments are in the seat-mounted ECU itself, not the cars ECU. The only requirement appears to be the passenger seat occupancy sensor. And also, if you swapped from non-ventilated seats to ventilated, I don’t believe there would be any plug-and-play capability to power the ventilation. I’m sure someone would be able to engineer a solution for that...🤷🏻‍♂️
