Default Wheel and tire insurance

Hi to everybody,
In the process of finalizing the purchase of a 2019 C4S and dealer wants to sell me a wheel and tire insurance package.
They have a promo, 2 years free with a multiple years package. So for 3 years, it"ll cost the price of 1 year, which is $2780 CAD.'s
Here's the question, they tell me that a Porsche wheel can't be repaired and a tire can't be patched!
On my BMW 750, I've had a 20" wheel crack in 2 spots on the inside of the rim, had it repaired for $120 and a punctured tire patched inside for free.
And the 750 has seen high speeds since.
So what's so special about Porsche wheels and Michelin tires? (sarcasm)

Could they deny warranty or CPO coverage for a problem in some way related to a repaired wheel or patched tire?
That's basically my worry.

I was denied CPO coverage on my catalytic converter because I had catback exhaust installed, and the local Service Manager is a grade A a-hole.

I wouldn't worry about it. Your wheels and tires aren't covered under warranty, and they would never be able to know you had any repairs done.

That is crazy money! Outrageous! I had insurance on my old 997. Cost at that time was $595 which seemed reasonable so I went for it. 40,000 miles and 5 years later the warranty expired and I had never needed to make a claim. At least I was only out $595.

I opted against it when I got my car last year. I do about 5000km a year, if it was a daily driver I prob would have considered it.

Depends how bad the roads are over there. Last time I was in Montreal it was constructions everywhere and the roads were in poor condition.

In my previous car (BMW M440i), I had 4 flats over the course of 2 years (sidewall bursts) and it would easily run me $1500 or more if I didn't have wheel and tire insurance.

Toronto roads sucks as well, not to mention the low profile run-flat tires were also not very forgiving.

My only broken wheel or exploded tire with my BMW was when I was running the factory supplied Run flats. Since replace all 4 tires with Non-RFT, i've hit bad potholes but never any wheel or tire damage since. (knock on wood!)
Yes Montreal roads are bad, but the 991 should not be my daily, or very occasional visit to a client. Pandemic means I work 100% from home now.
The Porsche will probably see the highway and country roads more than city streets.

Then no, you won't make your return with the wheel and tire insurance.

Nothing special about Porsche tires but the fact that they are extra wide compared to BMW 750 and stickier attracts more nails and other objects. The tires are so expensive these days! The Porsche wheels are typically well made so they dont crack that often but if they do you can get them fixed or buy one in the used market.
On the warranty, You are essentially paying for 3 years, there is no free lunch. If you decide to keep the car for more than 3 years and you have a heavy foot and like to be worry free then get the warranty. The prorated cost of the warranty over 3 years wont be much and the fact that you can just drop the car off at the dealer and they care of everything is a blessing. Why would you patch your tire or weld a wheel if you can get a new tire and rim covered under warranty? I would buy it but for less so nego the hell out of the dealer, make them an offer and they will accept it.

There's a reason dealers push the tire and wheel insurance, and it's not because it's good for you.

$2,780?

That is just outrageous.

Wheels and tires can be appropriately fixed but what they are saying is that a P dealer will not do it. I believe PCNA do not allow them to do so.

For that number I would be self insuring I think. Depends on how many miles you plan to do, but if it is limited then the risk is also limited.

Thanks everybody. I’ll make them an offer and if they say no, I’ll also be saying no

My recommendation is put that money in a savings account, when you're done with the time period, I have a feeling you have quite a bit left.

For that amount of money, you can buy a very nice set of (4) Takeoffs with tires on them. In fact, I have set of nearly new "S" wheels with tires in my basement I'd sell for that ! (I put on HRE wheels and Michelins after just 500 miles).
