Searched and searched, now need a little help. The "wedge" tool for removing the shifter surround and the center console button unit is missing from my toolkit. I've broken three trim removal tools trying to get under the shifter surround (per user manual), has anyone done this successfully? Well obviously they have so what am I doing wrong?
Edit: answering my own query here - approached from another direction...
Pull away the console side trim to enable access to the big loop trim around the outside of the buttons and shifter and coin tray/smoker flap. Pull that trim up and off, it is aluminium coated with your chosen finish and not delicate, Then you can get your fingers under the shifter surround to pull up, then the buttons to pull up. Easy peasy, no tools, not even opposable thumbs.
As I put it back together in the morning, I'll snap a few pics to add.
Pull the side trim away a little to get good access to the surround trim. Pull up the surround trim starting at the bottom and remove it There is a rubber gasket to remove too Now with good access either side, pull up the shifter surround, it doesn't come up far Finally pull up on the button unit to release it
