Hey guys,

just went for an afternoon drive in the country, but after a bit of a bumpy road i noticed a tiny rattle/vibration coming from the left of the steering wheel. Things got worse on the highway on our way back and it was driving me crazy, constant rattle like a little broken piece of plastic touching something, vibrating at the same rhythm as the car vibrations. I was able to temporarily stop it by pressing on the left top speaker grille/vent, but everytime I would hit a bump or a bridge expansion joint it would start again. Anyone had this issue and found a permanent solution? Car only has 5500km 🤬. Thanks for the help.

 

I make the dealer deal with all of the rattles so that hopefully it gets reported back to the Porsche engineers so they can do a better job of designing our cars to not rattle.

My 2016 Cayenne GTS with < 15k miles on it rattled from everywhere. My 2017 911 rattles from the door panels due to some wiring that they apparently decided to route way too close to the subwoofers.

 

I had similar vibration from right windshield defroster and center channel grille. In the end the foreman took everything apart a few times and I talked a bunch of felt that has a sticky edges. That sorted it out .

 

Is there truly any car that doesn't develop some rattles at some point in time? Especially a sports car with stiffer suspensions and chassis?

Ya that's annoying. I wouldn't be happy either. I just see posts about rattles on every single car forum.
I have noticed sometimes, over time, the rattles seem to work themselves out for some reason.

 

I just had those grills off last night to replace my tweeters. They’re a pain to take off. Basically, you have to destroy the clip. So, not an easy DIY unless you have an extra rear clip. Look up the Musicar tweeter upgrade video on YouTube if you want to see how to take it off to search for the rattle.

Personally, I’d take it to the dealer, complain about it, and make them deal with it.

 

yep I don’t like the idea of them removing panels and what not but I guess I don’t have a choice.

But pandora’s box is now open and I now notice every tiny noise 🤣 god help me lol

 

It is scary at first, but once you make the decision to give it a try, it really is not that hard to remove the grill. There is one clip that is a bitch to removes, but if you remove the vent and use pliers to squeeze the clip inwards, it is not a big deal.. You may be able to forgo removing that clip and pop out the grill on the two sides and then put some felt tape underneath the edges.

 

I have the same rattle but unfortunately can’t help point to what it is. If you find out, please post!

 

Once upon a time, I had an annoying rattle from that area. I finally traced it to the rear mirror switch (the one with the four arrows). If I put my finger on it, the rattle disappeared. Needless to say, it was an easy fix. Hope that helps

 

We have an e-Golf that has absolutely zero rattles or creaks...maybe because it’s an electric so smoother?

 

I get an annoying creaking sound from the center armrest area when going hard around right hand corners only. Anybody have any experience with this one?

 

my 993, with over 150k miles, is like a bank vault when you close the door.

my 991 has had quite a few little annoying rattles. many of which i've chased down but some are still there. just learning to live with them.

 

thats crazy that a car from 30 years ago rattles less than our laser built cars 😅.
