Default Bored. Want to do a Brake Job

Hi gang.

I'm due for a brake job on my 991 and figured that instead of sitting around watching automotive channels on YouTube and mixing up another cocktail, it might be more fruitful to save $800 plus in labor and $500 in parts and fix my own car.

I've done brakes on other cars of course, but not recently or on a Porsche.

Anything interesting that you guys have run into when doing this that I should be prepared for?

TIA

It’s the same as any other sports car, just don’t break any sensors and you’ll be fine.

Read the threads on here. You should be fine. Replace hardware if needed.

I had a sensor acting up, so just replaced both fronts. Sensors not too expensive., at least not for my model. How many miles do you have on them?

I'm sorry... I just had to laugh because "watching automotive shows on YouTube and mixing up another cocktail" is the exact way we've been spending these last few weeks 😂🤣

Since Porsche recommend you replace the bolts, I would buy the stud kit from a Tarett and the brake line bracket studs. these little studs for the brackets are life savers but only needed for front. Lol
don’t need to loosen anything on rear, only disconnect the ABS sensor wire.

Be sure to have have new sensors on hand, they brake easily. They are pretty cheap at Pelican

So I've got an upcoming front brake job I am assembling the parts for.

I've seen conflicting information on the sensors: For a '17 base C2, are there two sensors on the front, or just one?

The Pelican parts web site seems to indicate that two sensors "per car" are required? That's "two front sensors" per car, right?

I know some folks reuse these, but it's usually my infernal luck to bust them when replacing on my previous brake jobs (bimmers, mostly) so I plan to have what I need on hand.

One sensor per wheel.

Not a hard job but be bloody careful when reinstalling the caliper bolts. They like to crossthread and strip the aluminum carrier. Fixable with a timesert, but not fun.

Good luck

If you're really bored, paint the hats on the new rotors first:

Yeah, I did mine in black. Looks great, and well worth the time and effort.

Nice tips. I was planning on buying new sensors and probably will since that's the cheapest part. Since I am doing it before any contact with the rotors I might not have to.though. I will check Pelican. I was thinking FCP Euro as well as a good supplier of this stuff.
I like the tip about painting rotor hats. That's an easy little upgrade!

Dammit @lexvan the wheel bolts too!? This just adds more stuff on the "to do" list. (But thanks yeah I will probably touch mine up while they are off.)
