To the OP - I think you're fine. It's probably fixable, and if not there are definitely enough parts to make your money back. Assuming it runs and drives, the engine/trans are worth ~$18-20k alone.

Man. scary example of buyer beware. I feel bad for you.
I watch those restoration videos on YouTube I.e. Alex Rebuilds. I can see the temptation of trying one the those projects. I hope it all works out for you. I would think the selling auctioneer should take some liability. Maybe you can pay a big penalty and call yourself lucky.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

These auctions are not for the faint of heart. You will lose money on some cars and make money hopefully on more than you lose. I hope the OP has some contacts in the collision industry. Good luck.

Three Wheelin'
Looks like it was sold again twice since the OP bought it. Dates are a little jacked up below but looks like it last sold for $16,2k.
Not sure if OP took a $3k hit or a $16.2k hit. Doubt he'll be back but it would be good to hear what happened.

Looks like OP posted 3 days after the sale where it went for $30k. And the next sales was when it went for $16k+ like a month and a half later. Unfortunately it looks like he took a big hit.
My main reason for asking because I just landed in a similar situation, but decided to back out and just pay the 10% realist fee on a $17k bid. Seems like that may have been the way to go for me.

OP's car just needs to get parted out, that thing does not need to be mobile in any way shape or form.

I bid on and won a 2016 Cayenne on Copart that didn't look too bad - Run and Drive, had some front end damage, radiator support was covered by the plastic panel/cover that looked out of place, but most importantly it didn't show a deployed airbag which was a good sign for me. Unfortunately, while researching prior to bidding, I missed a site which listed the previous sale that happened with that car a month prior. In that initial sale the images showed that front end was way worse, hood was pushed further back and up, airbag was deployed and radiator support was pushed QUITE LITERALLY into the engine also was listed as an Enhanced Vehicle. Looks like the seller pulled the radiator support out, cut out the airbag and re-glued the cover or just replaced it but didn't reset the module (cluster still showed airbag light which I missed), and replaced a tire then relisted it. I'm devastated to have to pay $1700 for nothing but I'm glad that I didn't pay for the car yet or for shipping the car 1000 miles AND THEN finding out the truth during repair. I read elsewhere about someone who won a same year Cayenne on Copart that was doctored but frame damage was so bad that it cracked the block at the engine mount...now that's a BAD day.
