Default Advice on leftover 2019 991.2 purchase

Hi,

I'm looking at a leftover (new) 991.2 that's been sitting on the dealer lot for some time. Production date is October 2018. The mileage is not a concern (under 100 miles). Do I need to worry about...
  1. Changing oil immediately (since it's been over a year from production date)
  2. Tire condition
  3. Battery condition
  4. Brake condition
Warranty started at the end of 2019, so it is being discounted to reflect that. Does this mean I can request (and pay for) CPO warranty on this car?

Thanks in advance!

I would definitely try to get CPO and an oil change as part of the deal.

Tires, brakes and battery should not be a concern.

Folks here are gonna freak out “oh the oil, it’s ancient, change it right meow!” Or “the tires, definitely all garbage, bin them immediately!”

I’d definitely push for CPO as that’s $2,500 worth of “free” extended warranty and it’ll help if you sell person to person or keep it longer than 3.5 years (unlikely, but you never know, maybe you’re soul mates).

Look closely at the tires. Look good? Great. Drive them. Fee good going well over the speed limit? Great. I’d be fine. We’re talking recent Pirelli or Michelin, not 20 year old dry rotted tires.

Brakes are fine and a closed system. Buy the car, drive a GREAT deal (what percentage off MSRP?), and get it serviced on time or a bit early that first time.

Enjoy it and drive it hard.

Unless you are getting ~20% discount

pass on it....

go for a 992!

I agree with the above.

The oil has begun to oxidize, which increases viscosity and leads to deposit formation; hence the recommendation to change it.

Aside from CPO or servicing issues, there's absolutely no way i'd purchase a new 991.2, unless of course it was $25K or more less than an equivalent 992. It would have to be a very special/unusual build to be looking at a new 2019 vs 2020.

The deal is solid (around 15% off MSRP) and it's very closely spec'd to how I'd order one. I think a few suggestions here (like oil change and CPO) will seal the deal for me. Thanks!

Chances are the car was inside most of the time. It should be fine. If the battery paid a price you'll know pretty quickly and they would replace it.

I was in a similar situation 18 months ago (purchased a 4/18 build date 911 in Feb of 2019) and was able to negotiate adding the CPO on top of a steep discount.

I assume you're planning on keeping the car long term? If yes, the CPO is great peace of mind.

If you like the 991.2 more than the 992 then I'd go for it!

If you are contemplating buying a new 991.2, albeit with a 15% discount, then buying a 992 isnt really a financial concern for you.

With that said, buying a new last generation with a Hefty discount Vs buying the newest design and generation at close to MSRP is not an easy a decision as it may seem.

I personally would go with a 992, likes and dislikes aside, better depreciation over 3-5 years on 991.2 Vs 992 alone will probably make up fr most of the 15% discount you think you are getting.

go with whats appealing, but newest design inside and out (especially inside) and far better depreciation makes 992 a tough car to beat

good luck

Yeah, I do prefer the 991.2 over the 992 regardless of pricing. So to be able to find one in a spec of my liking is hard to beat!

I was also in similar boat a few months back, with about $20k off new 991.2 vs new 992. Again, I had little interest in the 992. Not a fan of the black plastic interior, more bloatedness and weight, nor the odd rear end now.(oh and more black plastic) So it was an easy decision...I received a CPO as well so have more warranty than a new car, plus own a car at the END of a gen run, vs the first year of new gen..which I avoid like the plague. All the kinks are worked out on 2019 991.2's, should be a solid vehicle. I'd pick the car you really want vs resale concerns. Sure a new 992 might be marginally better resale wise 5 years from now, but I am not convinced everyone wants this new version. Plus, if resale was a factor then I'd buy a 997.2 GTS probably based on my budget..but it's not, you should get the car you most enjoy.

I was faced with a similar decision back in August of last year. I chose a 991.2 because it has a manual gearbox and the 992 is PDK only.

I bet you like the 991.2 more than the 992, just like I did - I waited until I saw the 992 before I ordered my 991.2. So ignore those telling you to get a 992 - maybe the ones telling you to get a 992 should get one and go to that forum. Anyway, push for the CPO and LOF and tell them you'll buy it...you will love it and I will look forward to the pics here in this thread when you do.

If you can afford a 911 then you are probably in a decent financial position. So, life is short - get what excites you. If you like the 991.2 better than the 992, go for it. You don't need to justify it.
