Default 991 GTS or Carrera T?

As the title states, I am strongly considering one of the two. Prices are very close and I am aware of the differences between the 991.1 and 991.2 GTS models and am open to either so long as they are 2 wheel-drive. Anybody here have experience with both and want to share it please do. Also, if there is a big difference in experience with .1 and .2 GTS models please share that as well. Otherwise, I'm going back to what I know and that is an older manual Turbo.

2 very different cars. Power and torque and hugely different. Can you take both for a drive and decide for yourself? I think it should be obvious after driving both, what you will prefer. And if you are unsure then buy nothing.

I can always try and bug the local P-dealer although I truly hate dealerships. I understand the differences on paper but there is an allure to the T....Not sure if anyone has had both or driven both to give feedback.

If you can get a 991.2 GTS for the same price as a T-I would go for that (the gts). If its between 991.1 GTS and T, then I would say go for the T (if you dont mind missing that awesome NA sound of the .1).

So you are considering buying a car without driving both that you are considering?

It’s been discussed a lot on here before, but what the heck, here are my two cents again. I have owned both a 991.1S w/powerkit (same engine as the GTS) and a 991.2GTS.

The 991.1 will have a more emotional engine note and you will have to wind it out for acceleration. It will also be a lot cheaper than a 991.2 right now. The 991.2 will be much quicker and have improved telematics/infotainment and a few other nice tweaks (nicer steering wheel, larger center console, frameless rear mirror, etc) and some slight external changes). The .2 exhaust note with PSE is more than acceptable for some (the .1 sounds slightly better, no question, if that is a priority for you).

I am a big fan of the .2 base or .2T - both are quicker than the .1GTS, which is remarkable. I like a lot of power and lots of options so I have a pretty nicely equipped .2GTS that I ordered. But at the end of the day, each of the 991 models is special in its own way and would be a blast to own and drive. Good luck with the hunt!

Done it about....90% of the time and I have had a lot of Porsche's. And to me, it's not like I'm going to take the car out on a track or beat on it so I get a great feel of it. Just a highway cruise and maybe a quick acceleration run... I have about a weeks driving time in a 2015 GT3 so I am familiar with the 991's a little bit. But to me I have to decide if the simplicity of the T wins over the additional hp and extras of the GTS.

991.1 GTS, 991.2 T, 991.2 GTS, or older Turbo 6MT? You're looking at four great cars...really can't go wrong.

I do like the 991.1 GTS engine a lot, both for its noises and its near-GT3 character up top, and the 911-50 still has big visual pull for me, but I'd probably go for a T or .2 GTS with the winner coming down to spec and price. The 991.2 chassis made a real leap, and the other changes—while small—are nice too. The 3.0-liter engines are masterpieces in their own right, too...just a different approach.

I am still a huge fan of the 50th anniversary cars. Just gorgeous! What a great package.

I drove both at LA PEC, but the T was a manual, the door pulls, short-shifter, narrow-body, lightweight glass...... just spoke to me. I was already a huge T fan, but I sort of fawn over those items that others see as gimmicky. I love the things that make a T unique and I always try and order the lightest most basic car I can when buying a sporty car. Are those things that you like and want? Up to you, I am sure GTS in your desired spec would be great, sort of depends what you do and don't care about. Both models would not disappoint, IMO.

The 911-50 is a mighty fine car. You can be darn sure Porsche wanted to make a special car to honor the 911's 50th anniversary. I have the 991.1 GTS which is the same car as the 911-50, minus the number plate and some other cosmetic bits. Having both a 991.1 and a 991.2 (Touring), I think the 991.2 wins for exterior styling. Subtle changes, but not insignificant, such as the improved door handles. I am an NA engine guy, so I would go for the 991.1 GTS over the 991.2 GTS or T. All three are great cars but I think you will find a greater difference in the driving experience between the 991.1 GTS and the two 991.2s than between the 991.2 GTS and the 991.2 T. The turbo engine gives the car that down low torque, but it sacrifices sound (in my opinion) and you lose out on the power band higher in the rev range as well as in symphonic scream of the NA engine as it revs from 6,000 to 7,800 RPM. Good luck in your search!

I think this is crazy, too, but a lot of people here do it. Tons of guys on the 992 board ordered the car without first driving it, or even seeing/hearing it in person. I could never do it.

The 911-50 is a a regular 911 with a cosmetic trim package, a number plate and an over-styled rear badge. For the life of me, I don't get what is special about it. Stick with your 991.1 GTS. As for the GT3 Touring, that's a whole different league. #foreverkeeper

Test drove a 991.2 4GTS - BEAST! But... in the end, spec'd out ordered a Carrera T stripper. Amazing engine, great note and pull, decent 7-speed MT, and last of the narrow-bodied 911's. As said before, try and go and drive them both. The CT is a nice, somewhat rare, package that ticks a lot of boxes. Good luck on your hunt!

Production of 991.2 GTS was 980 cars. 1336 for 991.1 GTS assuming they were only 2015 and 2016 production. T is not separated out for some reason.
