000 Magazineand @ptsrsare thrilled to announce Rare Shades 5 will take place in Toronto, Canada on Saturday June 20, 2020. Registration opens on April 20, with early priority given to 000 subscribers and more details to come.
Rare Shades—which celebrates Porsches in unusual colors or Paint to Sample from all eras—is open to the public, and general admission is free. For those who wish to display a Porsche in an unusual factory color, $45 USD reserves a designated spot in the special display area and includes coffee and pastries for two along with a goodie bag with 000 gear.
Not that this applies to me, but does anyone bring wrapped cars or cars that were repainted a rare shade? I’ve always been curious on how that works...I would think a factory “rare shade” car would be ideal.

There is a selection panel that reviews every application to confirm that cars were originally painted by Porsche (even if they've been repainted in that same color), that the color is less often seen today. The nice thing for owners of older Porsches is that time has made many older colors less often seen—and we believe it's nice to celebrate them.
If you have a chance to participate or even just visit a Rare Shades event, do not hesitate. Here’s a shot of some of “the blues” at last September’s RS in the Los Angeles Arts District downtown. Spectacular!

So, to clarify, a car repainted to a different original Porsche colour from a different year would NOT qualify, correct?

Looks like a very cool car, if it's the one in your avatar. Generally speaking, the selection team is looking for original paint or restorations in original color—but you could submit it and, in the worst case, 000 refunds your $45. (Also: It's looking more and more like this Rare Shades will have special parking adjacent to the main show.) Whatever happens, I hope to meet you when I am there—please come say hello!
